Boy would be known as Kim. Opinions?

Kim is a middle-aged man's name in Australia. It's terribly dated as a boys' name. No, just no.

HermioneWeasley · 03/07/2015 20:29

never heard of a man called Kimberley

ashesandfire · 03/07/2015 21:10

no no no

GinUpGirl · 03/07/2015 21:32

I know a male Courtney and he pulls it off spectacularly.

Hadron21 · 03/07/2015 21:39

This is not an option.

MamaLazarou · 03/07/2015 21:50

Kimberley! For a boy!

Grin Grin Grin

pinkyredrose · 03/07/2015 21:54

Courtney is a well known unisex name though. Kim is a fine boys name, not so sure about kimberley.

GinUpGirl · 03/07/2015 21:55

Haha!

I went out with a bloke called Kerry..... he was an arse but that's by the by and I know a boy called Sasha (mother had Russian family) and we did try to warn her it was predominantly a girl's name in the UK.
But I agree, unless you're a North Korean sympathiser, I'd avoid Kimberley!!

MirandaGoshawk · 03/07/2015 22:02

I know a boy called Kim (after the Rudyard Kipling character, presumably) but I don't think you should use Kimberley. It's a lot like Beverley, which also used to be a boy's name but isn't now.

I suppose you could put it on the birth cert but why would you if you're going to call him Kim?

EthelCardew · 03/07/2015 22:04

I knew a lovely lad called Kim. I've also known a male Stacey and Lindsey.

Love Kit for a boy.

thatsn0tmyname · 03/07/2015 22:05

Go for Kit or Kip.

MrsBungle · 03/07/2015 22:07

Kim is not too Horrendous. Kimberley is awful.

Stitchintime1 · 03/07/2015 22:09

A stripper's name. Female stripper.

3579little · 03/07/2015 22:12

Kim is nice, not Kimberley. I would read the name and think east Asian name. Thats not a bad thing mind.

Sasha can def still be both though. I have known a few Sasha's.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 03/07/2015 22:14

I knew one at uni, about 8 years ago. He despised his name, really really hated it and said he'd spent his whole life being bullied about it.

GinUpGirl · 03/07/2015 22:16

Hahaha Zakken - he's 11!

AuntieStella · 03/07/2015 22:17

Every Sasha I've known is a male. I can think of 5 amongst the DCs' classmates.

It's kind of the Russian equivalent of Charlie. Could be a woman, but everyone expects a bloke.

Kimberley was unisex when I was growing up, so I don't think it's a total no-no for a boy. I knew two, but they most both be 50ish or older by now.

villainousbroodmare · 03/07/2015 22:31

Kim is all right. I'd like Kit better.
Kimberley is a girl's name and a slightly tacky one imo, or a soft gingerish biscuit with a sugar-coated marshmallow filling.

HighOverTheFenceLeapsSunnyJim · 03/07/2015 22:32

You could get away with Kim for a boy but not Kimberley. Joachim nn Kim is fab.

Sophronia · 03/07/2015 23:08

Kim is better on its own for a boy, or short for Joakim / Joachim

Iliveinalighthousewith2friendl · 04/07/2015 09:42

No. Please don't. There are lots of lovely boys names out there. Without resorting to putting your child at risk of teasing. Children can be so cruel, op.
Also to me Kimberley (Kim) is not just a girls name. It's also very feminine and pretty.
How about Using it for a girl. Very unusual now.

Lucie99 · 04/07/2015 09:51

GinUpGirl I looked at that website. Grin Definitely not using Kim! Although I do still like it.

The Wrestler Big Daddy was really called Shirley. I wouldn't use that either.
