DS will be here next week (she says so naively.. Prob another 3 weeks going on dds timekeeping) and can't choose between these names

Sid
Ted

Not short for anything, just on their own. Not wanting to get into a bc debate, just want to know what you like the best and if you don't like any, why? (Just for the record , Sid is my late fathers name, I am aware it's better suited to a snake but felt it should be a contender)

Sid I like as a nn, but not sure as a full name. I like Sidney better, but I think the reasons behind it is lovely.

Love Ted. Ben is nice. Sid is ok, and think I'd grow to like it once I knew the child, but a bit 'out there' for me to chose for my own child.

Ted. Sounds like a really cute little boy and a calm, kind and capable man. Love it.

Ben us a perfectly nice name, I know lots of them of all ages.

Not keen on Ted, nice for a little boy and an older man, but I'm not sure about a 14-year-old Ted or a 24-year-old Ted

Funny I had Ted, Sid and Bruce down if I had a boy. Looking back I'm glad I had girls as I'm not over the moon about any of the names now. Ben for me.

Without it:

Ben - sorry, but it's over-used/everywhere at the minute. It's also the name of a flowerpot man

Ted - I like it, it's even a little trendy. But lots of American sitcoms have 30 somethings called Ted at the minute, so I would query in the future when your ds is an adult) it will be associated with middle aged men.

Sid - in one sense my least favourite, but overall I think's it's the best option. It's already an old-man's-name, so it won't "date" further. It is cute for a primary school aged boy, not so great for a teenager, but he'll probably be known by a nickname by then anyway!

A boy called Sid is going to be one of the cool kids. And the sentimental aspect adds to it's charm.

Ted is an awesome name.

Go for Edward known as Ted then he had lots of choices.

Ben is drippy.
Sid is ugly and aggressive sounding.

But in your case I would go for Sid. But use Sidney. There is a Sidney in DD's pre-school class and the name really suits him. Having a personal link to you too just makes it better.

I prefer Theodore as the full name for Ted. Edward is too stuffy.

Ted is OK as long as he has a proper name on his birth certificate.

Ben - fine but a bit nondescript
Sid - no, Sid James, Sid Owen, just don't like it.
Ted - nice as a childhood nickname for Edward, but too childish for an adult.

Ben/Sid: not my thing but fine.

Ted: love it but it is my Grandpa's name (short for Edward)

Don't like Ted but the two other ones are nice (although I prefer full names)
