Sydney for a girl

Hi all,

What do you all think of the name Sydney for a girl?
It's not my usual style but I quite like it. Do you know any Sydneys? It would be paired with a traditional middle name, probably Anne after a family member. DH loves it which is unusual for him so I'm giving it some thought!

I really like it. There was a cool Borrible called Sydney.

mrssmith79 · 03/07/2015 07:54

I love it. I'm not a fan of the current pensioner name trend though.

Zakken · 03/07/2015 07:57

No. It is a man's name. I really dislike the use of traditional masculine names for girls, why do people want to do this? What next, Stanley?

Hexadecimal1 · 03/07/2015 08:00

I love it, strong and feisty

LovethenameDaphne · 03/07/2015 08:20

Mixed views then but mainly positive which is good to hear. Smile

I knew a Sydney about 7 years ago. She had a twin sister called Atlanta.

Oh wow, I teach twins called Sydney and Atlanta! Wonder if it's the same pair ...

I used to dislike the name until I started teaching the girls. Sydney's so gorgeous that now I love it!

MuddyWellyNelly · 03/07/2015 17:43

I love it. I was/am a bit obsessed with Alias though, which is why I love it.

Ludways · 03/07/2015 17:58

We have a Sydney in the family, she's 5. I prefer Cydney for a girl, just looks less like a city. It makes me think of Cyd Charisse, although her real name wasn't Cydney. Lol

Floggingmolly · 03/07/2015 18:05

Love it!

bruffin · 03/07/2015 18:05

Prefer Sidonie

LovethenameDaphne · 03/07/2015 18:12

How is Sidonie pronounced? Sid-OH-ny?
Or SID-uh-ny

Either Sid oh ny or Sidnee from what i xan gather. Barry Sheene's daughter was Sidonie pronounced sidnee.

RiverTam · 03/07/2015 18:26

Yes, it's the name of the Mitfords mother. I quite like it.

Melawen · 03/07/2015 18:27

My great-aunt is a Sydney, everybody calls her Sydie.

LovethenameDaphne · 03/07/2015 18:34

I love the shortening Sydie!

I know a female Sydney in her teens. It really suits her... I like it.

Idoitforthelove · 06/07/2015 22:35

I know a Sydney in her 20's.
Lovely girl. Awful name.

mrstweefromtweesville · 06/07/2015 22:43

It's not a bad name at all. It will do. MrsTwee declares it sound.
