Love Tabitha and Violet. Too 'now'?

I love Tabitha and Violet as names but do you think they'll age quickly, with the whole old fashioned name vogue? I also love Kitty, but I'm not sure about using as the full name. Any thoughts?

They are popular currently, and rising, so will probably be considered old fashioned, at some point. Whether that is so much of a concern to prevent you using only you can decide.

Kitty has lost its appeal to me as a name, better as short for something more solid and substantial/

Not so keen only kitty unless it's short for Katherine.

Violet is fab

I agree that Violet is a fan name. Both Violet and Tabitha are becoming more popular. I'm not a fan of Kitty, I'd register as Katherine (or whatever spelling you prefer!). It's one of those names which is nice at 5 but not so nice at 25

Violet yes, not so sure about Tabitha - is it that popular? I don't know any.

In my head Kitty could be a viable nn for Tabitha, because of the Beatrix Potter cat association.

My great-gran was a Kitty (not short for anything), I like it. I like Tabitha too.

What about Talitha? Much less popular, very pretty. I also like Viola, but everyone seems to pronounce it differently.

Tabitha sounds too feline for me. Less so than Kitty even which is funny Grin .

Love Tabitha. DH vetoed for DD.
Really like Kitty as nn for Catherine, Catriona, etc
Less keen on Violet, I keep reading it as 'violent'.

Violet is extremely now. There is at least one everywhere I go with my 3 yo dd.

I know people from 90 to 3, calked Kitty, short for Kirsten, Kathryn and Caitlin.

They are gorgeous names - not just for now. I know 2 Violets - wide apart in age. I know no Tabithas.

Violet is definitely too 'now'.. Like the Lily of a couple of years ago. I don't know any young Tabithas.

Tabitha was on our list - hadn't heard of a single one, but in the last year since ds was born I've heard it everywhere. I really do like it though and may consider it for our next child (if it's a girl that is!).

Violet is lovely, but again there are lots about if you're concerned by that.

I used to worry about giving my children a popular name, but in the end I think it's better to go with the name you like. I have a popular name from the late 70s/early 80s and very rarely come across another - but there are loads out there!

Both are names that are very popular on Mumsnet yet I have never met one of either on real life... I dislike Tabitha, it's a good cat's name. It will date very, very quickly. Violet is fine, not really my taste. I'd imagine it will also date but perhaps not as quickly as Tabitha.

But how popular is Tabitha really? She seems to be in the lowest part of the top 200, dropping slightly.

2012 in 181st place with 283 girls named Tabitha and a further 22 Tabathas.
2013 in 191st place with 278 plus 23 Tabathas.

Will be interesting to see last year's figures.

Violet is very very current, I would avoid. A gorgeous name but I imagine it will get to like, number 10 and then fall massively.

Tabitha is less so. Less trendy more 'well known'. I know Tabithas aged 10 onwards.

How about Viola instead of Violet and Talitha instead of Tabitha?

I think more people like the idea of Tabitha than actually use it. It's one that seems to pop up on possibles lists a lot. Same with Jemima.

I know a couple of Talithas, but no Tabithas, but I agree that it's a name people seem to have on their lists but don't go for. I also think 'violent' when I think of 'Violet', but still love it! I do like Viola too, but not quite as much.

Tabitha and Violet are beautiful names. If you use Kitty, have it as a diminutive of Catherine. And be ready to hear endless "Hello Kitty!" comments.

Jemima was going to be our second and Tabitha our third.

Neither has come to fruition though.

I don't think Violet or Tabitha will ever be a top 10 name. Neither are cutise enough and neither end with an ee sound.
