Hi! My second baby girl has arrived and after being sure I love the name I have chosen for her I am now unsure. What do you think of the name Aiya Elsie or Aiya Elise?

Out of the 2 i would go with Ayia Elise, Elsie is a bit close to Elsa, frozen is way to popular for using that.

Letmegetanamechange · 02/07/2015 08:21

How do you pronounce Aiya? Sorry probably a silly question but I've no idea Confused

MissBattleaxe · 02/07/2015 08:22

Aiya makes me wonder how its is pronounced. I may not be alone. Is it "Eye-Yuh? "Ay-yah? People will always either get it wrong or always ask.

Elise is nicer than Elsie.

Rosa · 02/07/2015 08:25

Aiya means OWWW or ouch in Italian if its pronounced how I think it is or I would think you were saying Hi- ya ..... Elise is nice .

villainousbroodmare · 02/07/2015 08:36

If I saw Aiya written I'd probably say EYE-yah. If I heard it spoken I'm not sure I'd know how to spell it.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/07/2015 09:32

Aiya Elise I think - otherwise it feels very 'vowelly' having both start and end with a vowel sound.

SoupDragon · 02/07/2015 09:34

If it is Eye-uh then Elise works far better than Elsie (which, if I'm honest, sounds dreadful with Aiya)

patienceisvirtuous · 02/07/2015 09:39

Not feeling Aiya at all. She will have problems all her life with people mispronouncing/misspelling.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 02/07/2015 09:48

Aiya is a bit wishy washy and nothingy really. Not loving it. Elsie is awful but Elise is nice. Aiya Elsie really doesn't go together.

Fridgedooropen · 02/07/2015 09:56

Don't like Aiya at all, sorry. As people have said, it's hard to know how to say it. It looks like something you'd shout in anger or distress to me. How about Maya or Maia?

Lindy2 · 02/07/2015 10:00

My DD has the middle name Elise. It was after her Great Grandmother who was called Elsie. I thought it was nice to have all the same letters but be more modern sounding. I think it is very pretty although I do know that Elsie is becoming popular again. It's a bit too old lady for me though.

IsadoraQuagmire · 02/07/2015 12:53

I only know Aiya as a brand of green tea. I love Elsie though.

Sophronia · 02/07/2015 12:55

Not keen on Aiya, it's a bit flimsy. Elise is nice though.

MamaLazarou · 02/07/2015 17:03

Sorry but I have no idea how to pronounce Aiya. Where is it from?

I love both Elsie and Elise equally.

hawkmcqueen · 02/07/2015 17:26

Elise over Elsie by a long mile! Congratulations Flowers

mrssmith79 · 02/07/2015 17:40

I love Elise but up here in the North East Aiya is the noise someone makes when they stand on a Lego.

VixxFace · 02/07/2015 19:28

Aria Elise

mummy0bummy · 02/07/2015 19:30

DS is at school with an Aya (EYE-uh), it's a
Lovely name.

I think Elise is better than Elsie.

bobajob · 02/07/2015 19:32

I'd go for Aiya Elise out of the two, but I'm also not sure about Aiya. Alya is nice though.

Spydra · 02/07/2015 22:03

Ooh Vixx, I like your suggestion of Aria.

Elise works best as a middle name.
