Wot no Welsh names list?

On the baby-names page, there is a link for Irish names, one for Scottish names, but none for Welsh names! Why?

We could start with Seren (Star), Enfys (Rainbow), Gareth (a Knight of the Round Table), Derwyn (Oak tree),Emrys (version of Ambrose), Dilys (True),Medeni (September-born), Teifi (name of a river), etc etc.

Aneura is the most beautiful name. Dh is on the fence. He didn't like it until I told him it was Welsh and that it wasn't spelt Anira.

Meurig, Rhiannon, Rhian, Angharad, Bronwen, Delyth, Myfannwy, don't know the meanings but that's just people I know!

Hi Glinda, that was a quick reply! Is it a feminine form of Aneurin (as in the late great Nye Bevan) or Aneirin (6th Century poet)? I'm not sure if those are just different spellings of the same name, and I don't know the meaning, do you?

I've seen it spelt Aneira, which would suggest "snow", but I could be quite wrong!

I have been looking for a Welsh thread! I generally find welsh names quite ugly I am welsh

I only know it as a friend's sister's name, and that was how she spelt it. I toyed with Aneira which I think is the original spelling, you are right, 'snow' but I prefer the adapted version.

When you linked it to Aneurin, my tummy dropped a little - I work for the Aneurin Bevan Health Board and hadn't even made the connection

Hi Chutney! Rhiannon I think is a goddess or someone from mythology, Angharad is "Beloved", Bronwen is "White Breast", maybe meaning the breast of hill. The others I don't know.

We'll have to do some research if MN allow us a Welsh names list.

Say "Sh'mae" to Meurig, Rhiannon, Rhian, Angharad, Bronwen, Delyth and Myfanwy for me!

plinky, I agree. And I prefer "Seren" with both the "E"s pronounced "eh", not "Serrun" as it tends to become in English.

Another lovely welsh name is Siwan, I have always pronounced it See-wan, but meeting a Siwan she pronounced it She-wan as in Sian.

Seems I misunderstood the "Irish (etc) names" lists. I thought it would be like the Baby Name Finder - with spaces for origin, meaning, pronunciation etc., but it's just a list of the most popular names, so hardly any are actual Irish names!

Wouldn't it be nice to have more information about the names we're interested in?

Seren is horrible, really don't get the current obsession with it. Such a hard word, not 'pretty' at all. Plently of nice welsh girls names such as Eira, Medi, Branwen/Brownwen, Sian, Gwenno... could go on obviously.

Is Seren popular now? In my generation would've been a horse's name
