Thea - Fear?

Baby girl due in a few weeks, dp absolutely loves the name Thea. I do like it but have some concerns, mostly when our 6 year old dd says the name it sounds like she is saying Fia or Fear! What do people think of the name Thea? Is she going to be called Fear at school for a good few years? Feeling quite hormonal and stressed about choosing a name and feel like my judgement isn't great at the moment.

Anyone have any other suggestions for girls names outside of the top 50 along the lines of Thea?

I know 3 Theas, a have a Theo and we also know a Phao, they're all lovely, my theo can get shortened to The, which I hate with a passion.

And the Phao is pronounced Fay-o.

I think its lovely too and remember your 6 year old won't be 6 forever and one day she'll probably pronounce it beautifully.

Ooh thank you for the feedback. It's nice to hear positive comments, I loved Thea initially but you're right, have since very much over thought it!

This was on another thread a while back and I was surprised to hear it pronounced with soft 'th' sound as I know it only as 't' sound. I love it with hard 't'. I believe this is the Greek way of saying it as the people I know called Thea are Greek. So you could choose! But it is a lovely name no matter how you say it and kids will learn -

I know a 7 year-old Thea and I remember when I first heard her name (said by an adult) I had thought they'd said 'Fia' and my first thought that it was an odd choice to choose a name that sounded so much like 'fear'.

I have a Thea. I love it! Was also worried about fear but honestly hasn't been a problem. She gets lots of compliments on her name. I don't regret it at all... And we love in london?!

I thought Thea rhymed with Taya?

Sunny it does in France (Théa), but the anglicised pronunciation is thee-a.

It'll be a problem if you live in Saaaafend!!

I think I would be a little more generous and choose either Theodora or Dorothea, both can be shortened to Thea but there are options if that doesn't work out.
