If you have/know a Sylvie, what does she get called for short? (if anything)

Dismalfuckers · 17/06/2015 20:15

Why? Sylvie is a lovely name, and short. No need for nn.

PallasCat · 17/06/2015 20:15

Know/have known a few Sylvies and Sylvias. None of them had nns SFAIK

Oh I SO badly wanted Sylvia for DD. Was not allowed :(

Sylvie is lovely and doesn't need a NN imo.

JuniDD · 17/06/2015 20:17

Sometimes Sylv or Syl. It usually gets lengthened though!

Briochoc · 17/06/2015 20:19

Just asking because I have one and Sylvie feels too long Blush

DH and I have one-syllable names and I must be more used to it round the house than I thought...

If you prefer a one syllable name, find one. Nicknames occur naturally, they are not chosen ime....

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 20:49

Sylv is the only shortening really. But then she'll sound less like an aspiring ballerina and more like a chain smoking Eastend barmaid of a certain vintage.

PallasCat · 17/06/2015 20:54

OP then maybe Vi/Vie pronounced Vee, if you don't like the more obvious Sylv?

Mitzy ha! Grin

Eversoslowly · 22/06/2015 09:30

My best childhood friend was a Sylvie and always went by Vivi.

EightFiftySix · 22/06/2015 09:37

I have a Sylvia and she's sometimes called Sylvie or Sylv when I cannel my inner fishwife. I'm hoping her friends will call her Vee when she's a bit older, I think that's very cool - so I daren't use it yet and jinx the possibility Wink. Lovely name, good choice OP.

ApplesTheHare · 22/06/2015 12:10

Thanks everyone. I have a southern accent with a bit of London in and keep calling her Sylv... it just doesn't sound good!Shock

shitebag · 22/06/2015 12:18

The only Sylvie I know gets called Silly.

She's 26 and has been called it since she was born because her elder brother couldn't pronounce her name and it stuck Confused

I’m Sylvie and an aspiring ballerina. Sometimes Syl to close friends. Sillly and Siri are natural ones, but I don’t respond to Silly.
CosyKnits · 04/02/2022 23:07

I have a Sylvie too and we call her Sylv and Sylver mostly. I tried ViVi, which is lovely but it never stuck.

Sylvie on its own is perfect though (I am biased of course).

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/02/2022 13:43

Syl, Sylv or Sly.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 05/02/2022 13:58

Vee

Snoopsnoggysnog · 05/02/2022 14:02

Syl is really sweet. Love the name Sylvie.

RuthW · 05/02/2022 14:43

Sylvie is the nickname for Sylvia.

HacerSonarSusPasos · 05/02/2022 14:51
