Lighthearted!

Rowan always gets a positive response on here and is suggested a lot.

I don't like it. I think it looks feminine (I know it can go either way) and it makes me think of Mr Bean!

Fleur. This has such a horrible sound!

Genevieve. I think this looks like a disease!

What are yours?

Hudson

It's a surname ....a river and a department store in Canada.

No

fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:36

Hudson? Does Mumsnet love Hudson? Shock

Horror!

Luckyfellow · 14/06/2015 22:38

Rowan is lovely.

purdiepie · 14/06/2015 22:39

Sophie; stupidly-spelt Celtic names; Charlotte; anything uninspired like Benjamin.

fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:39

So think many people - it gets suggested in nearly every thread about names for baby boys. I just really don't like it.

Not sure whether they're liked on here or not but certainly IRL.
I hate all the popular over used names such as
Alfie
Charlie
Harry
I hate surname type names as well, such as Harrison Tyler Mason ect.
And if I hear the names Lily-Mae or Amelie much more. I swear I will scream.

fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:41

I don't like surnames either. Harrison is suggested a lot on here, which surprises me.

Beatrice, Phillipa, romilly and seren. then the 'alt boys with an 'x' types' like rex, axel, dexter and jax.

sweetpeame · 14/06/2015 22:43

I think there must be at least 20 names that people regularly rave about on here which I think are awful. But as a starter for ten:
Rowan/Rohan - really wet for either a boy or a girl
Ottilie - pretentious and too try hard
Luna - sounds like lunatic...
Any name that's a surname, again very try hard and a bit too American IMO

Interestingly I've never actually met any Rohan/Rowans, Lunas or Ottilies in real life...

fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:43

Yeah I don't like Romilly either now you mention it!

OP posts:
MrsBungle · 14/06/2015 22:44

Margaret. It seems to be loved on Mumsnet. It's a 50 year old ladies name to me.

sweetpeame · 14/06/2015 22:45

Oh and Romilly. Again never actually met one but gets mentioned on here a lot!!

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2015 22:46

I don't like surnames as names either. Or boy names as girl names (or vice versa).

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2015 22:47

Arlo is another mumsnet name I really dislike and have never seen or heard of in real life.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 14/06/2015 22:48

Agreed. Sweet Pea. All these MN names. I doubt I'll ever meet any IRL.

I do love Vivienne nn Vivi though. That seems to be making a come back but don't if just on here or IRL.

fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:49

Arlo sounds like a cockney talking about Harlow ... Blush

Mind you I'm sure my DCs names would be castigated by many!

DS - 'you can call him Ted' no why would I do that
DD - 'margarine'

Gabriel, sounds so feminine. Patrick, Georgina, Pippa - all so popular on here but sound really harsh to my ears.

fruitpastille · 14/06/2015 22:51

Don't like Claudia, Beatrice, Hugo, Tristan... And many more!

hoobypickypicky · 14/06/2015 22:51

Oliver, Olivia and Lydia. All horribly po-faced, middle class to my ears.

And everything ILive said. I really don't like the popular boys names, the Jacks, the Harrys, the Bens. I like them even less because they're shortened versions of proper names. Don't get me started about the awful MN love of "nicknames" (which they aren't, anyway).

I find many of the Clementine/Constance/Matilda type names too try-hard too. I'm hard to please!

MyNameIsSuz · 14/06/2015 22:51

Oh, and Jude for a boy, that's a woman's name!

fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:52

That is so true about Gabriel - similar issue to Rowan.

And calliope. It is just a silly - word! Grin

OP posts:
fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:54

And milo.

Titus Annius Milo was a thug in Ancient Rome.

Then there is a horror film called Milo.

It is a popular dogs name.

Why, Mumsnet? Why?!

OP posts:
Peanut14 · 14/06/2015 22:55

Purdiepie. Are you for real 'stupidly spelt Celtic names'. They are not stupidly spelt names, they are a DIFFERENT LANGUAGE. No need for insults, you could have just said Celtic names not ' stupidly spelt.'

fiveacres · 14/06/2015 22:56

Oh, let's not have a pointless row Hmm

OP posts:
ancientbuchanan · 14/06/2015 22:56

Ruby.
Daisy
Pearl
Sam
Fred or Freddie
Alfie
Flower names
Louise
Atticus. Wonderful character. But not a name
