Benjamin

We have an Oliver.....what are your thoughts on Benjamin for his brother? If not why not, and what would you suggest instead? We like strong English 3 syllable names that can be shortened. Nothing too unusual. Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds fine to me.

Sgtmajormummy · 14/06/2015 16:10

Benjamin means "favourite child" (killed by his jealous brothers in the Old Testament) but don't tell your other DS. Grin
What about Samuel or Jonathan?

Baies · 14/06/2015 16:10

It's just a bit boring isn't it?

Hummingbird15 · 14/06/2015 16:11

I love it!

reuset · 14/06/2015 16:14

It's just a bit boring isn't it?

Yes, choose an exciting, and 'speshul' name like Beelzebub instead, OP. Grin

It is not boring, Bais.

Offering up Tobias as a suggestion, molly.

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 14/06/2015 16:21

Lovely. Dc3 was very almost a Benjamin but we went for Thomas in the end. Would probably use Benjamin if we have another boyGrin

molly84 · 14/06/2015 16:23

Thanks guys. I do like Samuel. Hadn't thought of Tobias - thanks.

I do worry Ben is a bit boring, but I like it still.

Already have Thomas and Jonathon as close family members...but love those names too.

can't ever think of a Benjamin without saying it the way it is said in Private Benjamin to make fun of her.. "Binamin" in a cutesy voice - it put me off.

I love it.

molly84 · 14/06/2015 16:31

Thanks justputyourshoesonnow. Do you think Benedict would go with Oliver? My husband has already dismissed it, but I think it should be on the list too. Thanks.

It's a lovely name. What about William or Nicholas?

molly84 · 14/06/2015 16:32

Appreciate all your thoughts guys

Benjamin is a lovely name. There are not many Benjamin's or Ben's at my sons school at all.

Kim82 · 14/06/2015 16:34

I have a Ben and think it is a great name and suits all ages (mine is almost 14). He is just Ben though, not Benjamin.

molly84 · 14/06/2015 16:37

Glad some people love it! William is a great name but three of my friends have little boys called William??

BadHenry · 14/06/2015 19:25

Gorgeous name.

I also like Samuel and Peter (too few syllables though, I know).

Personally I think that Benedict sound a bit harsh. It's very popular on here though.

Baies · 14/06/2015 19:47

You don't need to pick a weird name just to avoid a dull and boring one y'know! The OP asked for opinions and that's mine

fionadal · 14/06/2015 19:57

Benjamin is a gorgeous classic name, not "boring" and, although there are a few around, it is certainly not uber-popular.

However, if you go for names like Theodore and Tobias, you will run the risk of them sounding "boring" in a few year's time -they are definitely on the rise - so many Theos and Tobys around - and they are not as "classic" as Benjamin.

I agree that Samuel is also lovely.

What about Timothy?

Having said that, I would go with Ben - it's a great name

Good Luck.

Mrsfrumble · 14/06/2015 20:04

It's a beautiful name. Strong and classic.

I have one myself Grin

wizzler · 14/06/2015 20:42

I like Benjamin.. but would also consider Theodore... I think Theo is fab

Baies · 14/06/2015 20:44

Timothy ?!?! Grin Now if ever there was a drippier name than Benjamin ...

Bellebella · 14/06/2015 20:46

I have a brother called Benjamin. I think it is a really nice name. Everyone bar our mother calls him Ben
