Sister for Edmund - Madeleine, Rosa or Matilda?

Hello,
I really need some help narrowing down my shortlist. Am a bit stuck at the moment...baby girl due later this summer.

Looking for a name similar in vibe to brother Edmund George... With some strength but also romantic, traditional with a bit quirk yet not overly used.. Too much to ask haha?
Maybe a name that was popular at the same period? Modern names are fine too though. Just gotta find both me and DP love!

Our last name starts with W so I'd like to exclude names starting or ending with V (though I love Olive, Violet and Liv).
Also trying to avoid names with the same initial as her sibling, E.

So far I've got:

Top 3

Matilda
Rosa (family name)
Madeleine

Then:

Louise
Maisie (OH favorite)
Josephine
Margot / Margaux
Tess(a)
Juno (guilty pleasure)

What do you think of these?
Can you think of any others?

Many thanks!

Edmund and Rosa would be lovely, I think. Your top three are all nice, although Matilda's quite popular. Josephine is wonderful, and I like Tess, too. How about Marianne, Caroline, Cora, Della, Leonora, Lydia, Julia, Celeste?

Cloggal · 12/06/2015 10:27

Rosa or Matilda (Tilda?)

cathpip · 12/06/2015 10:28

I love Rosa Louise as a name, Madeleine and Matilda although pretty are fairly popular!

SoftSheen · 12/06/2015 10:31

Dorothea.

It ticks all your boxes with bells on (think Dorothea in Middlemarch) and is a beautiful and underused name.

Love all three. But Rosa with Edmund

reuset · 12/06/2015 12:02

And I'll eat my hat if the OP uses the suggestion given of Kinborough. Grin Kinborough!

VixxFace · 12/06/2015 12:02

Rosa Margot

Eversoslowly · 12/06/2015 12:04

Lovely suggestions, thank you all.
Alice was supposed to be on this list too! Forgot to add it. DP not super fond of it though :(
Dorothea, I quite like it! A bit long perhaps but cute nn possibilities
Maude, love it but too similar to Edmund
Have a totaly sweet spot for Marnie too :) was on the long list
Juliet(t) - yes

Oh yes - Edmund and Rosa! Perfect.

TempsPerdu · 12/06/2015 12:33

Rosa is gorgeous - also love Rosanna. Not so keen on Madeleine and Matilda - Matilda in particular is very popular at the moment. Like Tess/Tessa and Juno, although I wouldn't say Juno was romantic - more quirky and slightly 'hipsterish'. Not sure Maisie fits with Edmund - it's not quite as strong-sounding - and Louise seems a bit plain compared to some of the others.

Celia
Marianne
Meredith
Daphne
Helena
Clementine
Marina
Miranda
Zita
Penelope
Serena

Edmund George is a great name by the way!

TempsPerdu · 12/06/2015 12:38

Really like Alice too - one of the few 'classic' names I never find dull. Still prefer Rosa though. Smile

Eversoslowly · 12/06/2015 14:54

@reuset, ahaha you won't have to eat your hat for sure :D
@TempsPerdue, DP in fact thinks Alice is too common so it's good to hear from others thinking more like me ;-)

I read a lot that Matilda is pretty popular but it's 'only' 36th place on the last statistics.. Unless there was a huge surge last year?

Henrietta

ashesandfire · 12/06/2015 22:36

Madeleine Tess is gorgeous... or Madeleine Rosa

LolaStarr · 12/06/2015 22:39

Rosa is lovely, so is Juno. What about Louisa?

indiana7 · 13/06/2015 00:32

Matilda is fab, has the same "old world" feel as Edmund albeit both are fairly middle/upper class, gorgeous names. Also like Olive, I don't think Maisie sounds as strong with Edmund, a tiny bit cutsie

Bjn765 · 13/06/2015 04:03

Tessa or Margot I love!

crapfatbanana · 13/06/2015 04:30

Rosalind
Wilhelmina

Ursula
Anthea
Henrietta
Julia
Romilly
Beatrice

Sorry, I forgot to say that I like all of your listed options except Juno. My favourites are Josephine and Rosa.

ClementineAndCordelia · 13/06/2015 10:28

Your top three would all go really well with Edmund , so you can't go wrong . If pushed I would say go for Rosa. Unlike Rosie it's not half as popular and is a lovely, strong ( and romantic !) name. If it's a family name all the more reason to go for it :)

Grace12346 · 13/06/2015 11:08

Madeleine sounds lovely with Edmund but since Rosa is a family name I would go with thatSmile
