We have just started TTC and I'm 42 so this may be nothing but academic. But please share your thoughts:

Girl: Genevieve Noor ("Vivi" but mostly Genevieve)
Boy: Alexander Valentine (Valentine is a family name) - to be called Sasha.

Love Vivi but not Genevieve. Much prefer Vivienne for the Vivi nn.

Love Alexander and double love Sasha. Valentine is great too.

Oh and good luck Thanks.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 10/06/2015 22:18

I am not crazy about Vivienne, or Vivi really (it's just that I'd like to "control" the NN).

I think I prefer Annabel but husband prefers Genevieve.

Is Sasha a nn for Alexander?

Like Vivi.....like the G name but not Vivienne. Annabel is gorgeous.

Not sure about the the boy names.....but like Xander as a nn for Alexander.

SylvaniansAtEase · 10/06/2015 22:29

Love Genevieve nn Vivi!

Love Sasha and Valentine too - however - are you prepared for Alex? Because it's very likely he might choose to be this himself!

Like Alex too though!

longlistofexlovers · 10/06/2015 22:31

Is Sasha a nn for Alexander?

Yes. A very well established one.

shitebag · 10/06/2015 22:33

I like Genevieve and Alexander.

Tbh if you want to control the nickname then don't use a name that can be shortened, I don't think that nicknames can be controlled once they hit school though.

Genevieve will become Jenny/Vee/Viv and Alexander will become Alex/Xander.

Sophronia · 10/06/2015 23:08

I love both!

DampAndRotten · 10/06/2015 23:20

I like Genevieve & Alexander.

Your chosen nns are fine, however

  • they may well end up as Jenny /Alex
&
  • personally I prefer Jenny & Alex

Hope that makes sense and helps!

reuset · 10/06/2015 23:33

Both good names, though they'll probably end up being Jenny and Alex to their friends

CakeRattleandRoll · 11/06/2015 06:55

Love your name choices.

I do think you can influence nns, but the child will ultimately decide their nn. If an Alexander grows up thinking of himself as 'Sasha' and always introduces himself that way, then there's no reason why others should call him Alex.

FifiLeBoo · 11/06/2015 07:04

I'm not keen on Geniveive but love Vivi.

And believe the usual spelling is Sacha for a boy, I looked it up when my dad was born as she is Sasha

FifiLeBoo · 11/06/2015 07:07

Obviously that should be dd not dad, fat fingers

2boys2girls · 11/06/2015 07:12

What about Annalise or georgiana ?

Rhubarbgarden · 11/06/2015 07:33

Love Sasha and Noor.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 11/06/2015 07:55

I would be extreeeeeemely unhappy if Genevieve became Jenny. I guess something to consider.

I do like Annalise, but prefer Annabel. Husband feels Annabel is far to English, prefers something international (he's forrin-ish).

Fifi I have a friend called Sasha, he's Russian. For some reason I'm not crazy about the "Sacha".

Smile I am fine with Alex, but love Sasha. I don't think I'd want to put on the registry, which is why I'd use Alex. I would like to discourage "Alex", but my husband is not 100% sold on Sasha for a boy.

BeautifulStars93 · 11/06/2015 08:46

im not keen on either sorry. didn't know Alexander shortened too Sasha and I see Sasha as a girls name (although I know it can be both)

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 11/06/2015 08:52

My parents gave all three of us names that could be shortened but they wanted to stick to the full versions.

As soon as we were old enough to have opinions, we all picked the short versions of our choice. You're not going to have control so maybe Vivienne is safer.
