What baby names did you "just HAVE to" use when you were pregnant that you were talked out of, and realise now are awful?

I was desperate to name DS Sirius, or to at least use it as a middle name, when I was pregnant. At the time, I was really upset that DH wouldn't even consider it and instead, every time I brought it up, would reply "Sirius-ly?". I'm so just relieved that I didn't tell anyone else this was the name I wanted to use so didn't have to face a load of Hmm faces! Grin

On the HP theme I was quite keen on Severus (nickname Sev) when I was pregnant. Fortunately for us all, the baby was a girl. Sill think it would have been quite cool though.

Lorcan for a boy, too Scottish for me now. (I'm Scottish btw!)

Magda for a girl- but actually it's my best name, going to make actual dd use this for her dd one day!

Not awful but 22yrs ago I had my eye on Hermione for eldest. 1st Harry Potter published 4yrs later. She would have hated the name from then on I'm sure!

Herbert with the nickname Bertie. Me and DP both decided we loved it while I was pregnant. Still quite like it now but I can't imagine DS called it.

Mac - which I thought sounded really cool, and seriously considered. Our surname is a Mc name ... glad I didn't Smile

Not awful but my dc1 would have been called Elsa if a girl. The whole
Frozen thing kicked off the following month.

I loved the name Isis and would have used it had either of my dc been female .

I really liked the name Gretchen. DH quite liked it but thought it wasn't a good choice in the end.

I look back and think WTF?!??! It sounds like Retching, combined with some horrible millennial mean girl from The Valley in Beverley Hills.

I blame the hormones.

I only have the opposite - perfectly nice names that DH vetoed but would have been great.

Had I named my DCs as a single parent they would be called Isaac, Marcus & Jenna. However DH's 'word association' put paid to every single one Sad.

So far I think temperamental has had the greatest escape!

DS1 (almost 7) would have been Isla. Which I still think is absolutely lovely, but we have a boring last name, and for a number of reasons are keen that our children have less common names. I had thought that Isla was quite unusual, but there are lots around here - 3 in his class (of 19), so he would have been Isla number 4. I think I would have been quite upset by its sudden popularity.

I wanted Toph/Topher after a character in my favourite book. DP said it sounded too much like tofu. He's not wrong, I now realise.

Plus, it's an American nn from Christopher and ds was never going to be a christopher.

She wanted to call dc1 Buster had she been a boy. He also wanted to call dd2 Bellina after the chicken from Return To Oz. Dh has shit weird taste in names.

DS would have been Dionne or Leyah had he been a she, thank Christ he wasn't as 9 years on I cringe at the thought!!

Dd was nearly a Pixie, she even held the name in hospital for 2 days, but saying it out loud and about a baby not cat brought me to my senses!!

We nicknamed my bump Herbert and I grew so attached to it that I spent ages trying to persuade DH to let me have it, Bertie for short. 4 years on and I am pretty relieved DS isn't a Herbert but I still love Bertie.

Indiana - for a girl. I loved it but not one single person in RL had anything positive to say about it.

Adore the name we actually went for a million times more though!

Aww there are too few little Herbert's around. I knew / know several. All Herbert's are entirely lovely. It's a rule I reckon.

If is have met thrm before I had DS ....

I had a wild fantasy of middle-naming my dd Tuesday if she was born on that day! It just appealed so much, and I still rather love it, but perhaps it's for the best that she was born on a Wednesday (and I didn't fancy that so much!)

On impulse we gave her the middle name of the dr who actually pulled her out of my section! Completely spontaneous decision.

I have a friend who is quite cross that Kate and William have now stolen both her dc's names... she's a big republican/ socialist! It's quite funny I think! Also her little George looks ever so like theirs.

Fox. Loved it. However (1) it is bonkers and (2) DD is Meg. I did not fancy shouting "Meg and Fox" in the playground.

Hacked, I love the name Fox also but think it is quite a name to live up to!
