What do you think of this name (girls name obvs)? Plan to shorten to Otti…I think it's really pretty but OH isn't in love with it.

Love it. Smile

missmargot · 07/06/2015 21:30

I love it, it was on my list had we have had a girl.

elpth · 07/06/2015 21:31

I love it and have suggested it repeatedly for DC2 but my DH doesn't like it Sad
Instead I have had to make do with naming DD's stuffed otter Ottilie...

Bjn765 · 07/06/2015 22:09

Gorgeous, my daughter's friend has this name and she is a delight!

bialystockandbloom · 07/06/2015 22:11

Love it, it's dd's middle name Smile

stqueen · 07/06/2015 22:16

I've got some work to do on OH Hmm

Any ideas or suggestions for middle names?

Gorgeous - might have to steal it!

florascotia · 07/06/2015 22:21

I like the original German pronounciation 'Ot-teel-ye-ah' www.forvo.com/search/Ottilie/de/ but am not so keen on the way it is sometimes pronounced over here: 'Ott-ill-ee'.

I also like Ottoline....

Ruperta · 07/06/2015 22:24

I think it is s bit of a marmite name. My friend has a little ottie who is lovely & I like the name but sometimes there is a srcumple of nose when you say it - but my view is if you like it sod what everyone else thinks (although don't think you can name your kid it if other half not keen!)

Wenglish · 07/06/2015 22:30

Love it!

mrstweefromtweesville · 07/06/2015 22:37

Er. no.

reuset · 07/06/2015 22:44

Also prefer orig pronunciation, but what can you do, it sounds a bit pretentious to use that almost

Ok name but super fashionable, though nowhere near mass popularity yet, but one of the popular ;unusual' names

Sophronia · 07/06/2015 23:15

Don't like it at all.

AlmaMartyr · 07/06/2015 23:23

Love itit!

Mustard969 · 07/06/2015 23:25

Ottoline is lovely. Like ottilly too

owlborn · 08/06/2015 12:17

Absolutely love it. Unusual without being too odd and it has a lovely sound.

MyselfandI123 · 08/06/2015 12:39

I'm 28 and my name is ottilie and I hate it!
It's constantly spelt wrong on all documents no matter how many times you correct it, people pronounce it wrong, I was bullied by children and adults as its a German name and it was as if I personally started the holocaust. Children used to call me otty potty and it really affected me in my younger years. Tried using my middle name Tamsin when I changed to secondary school but as soon and they found out that wasn't my name it was like throwing petrol on a fire.
I grew up in a respectable, wealthy part of the country so you would think they would know better.
Please consider your child when using unusual names. It can be a curse even if you think it's pretty. Don't want to put you off just thought I'd give the other side to it x

sweetpeame · 08/06/2015 19:14

It's one of these names that is always wildly popular on mumsnet but I've never heard used in real life and I live in London. It's ok if a little pretentious IMO.

Quasilulu · 09/06/2015 01:26

Not my cup of tea. Keep thinking Ottilie Butterly sorry.

ClementineAndCordelia · 13/06/2015 10:42

Personally I love it and would love to use it, but whenever I've suggested it to family or DH they've always made the link with Utterly Butterly and said please don't !for that reason i was put off but if you love it go with the German pronunciation ( above) which doesn't make that link as much or Ottoline / Ottoline . Otti is lovely . If there were issues with the name in the future she could always change to Tillie if need be .

sebsmummy1 · 13/06/2015 10:52

I heard it for the first time a year ago at the toddler group I went to. I have to say my initial reaction was that it was a real weird name, but the more popular it becomes the more I like it.

I wouldn't choose to use it myself but I think it's fine.

Bodicea · 14/06/2015 14:44

It is pretty but I think it come across as a bit pretentious. The only ones I have come accross of children in lifestyle blogs/magazines generally people based in London or thereabouts.

TheFillyjonk · 14/06/2015 14:54

Personally, I dont like Otillie. I just can't get past the otter connection. I knew someone with the nickname Ottie (not an Otillie though) at school, and they got called "Spotty" all the time.
