What do people think of Bobby as a shortening for Robert?

Robert seems very underused these days, so a little Bobby I met the other day really stuck out. In a good way. I found myself thinking it was a really sweet name.And Robert a great longer name.

Must have a thing for B-names at the moment! Not even pregnant but just idly thinking about a possible name for a possible no. 3!

I'm sorry but I think -bert names are all really ugly tbh. It's just not an attractive sound.

Bobby is cute for a baby or toddler though.

Not terribly popular here in Scotland, as in Scots its Boaby which is also a name used to infer penis.

The Scots 'Rab' or 'Robbie/Rabbie' are quite good, however!

All Bobbys I have come across have been naughty. Robbie is much nicer.

I thought 'boaby' was just a West Coast thing? Never heard it anywhere in RL, only in Glasgow comedies.

Bobby seems more associated with girls these days, although I'm all for the boys claiming their names back. But it's certainly mote noteworthy than the ubiquitous Robbie.

It's a well researched fact that the name you choose for your child will impact their future behaviour.

Sorry, don't like either Robert, Rob or Bobby. Just dull. A bit outdated. Bobby a bit daft... So many nicer names!

I know a Bobby. I actuallt suggested the name to the parents as I liked it but would never use it. hes just Bobby I really dislike Robert though x

Bobby is the name of a little wire haired terrier. That is what I see in my mind when I think of that name.

It's adorable and he can always become Bob or Robert if he feels Bobby becomes too babyish.

It's funny, because normally I see the names on here and think WTveryF?!?

But this name I just think is perfect and I would have certainly considered it as one for my DS, except there is already a rather rubbish personality show would have have that exact name.

Bobby becomes twee very very quickly. Robert is awful. Honestly. Robert, Albert, anything-Bert, ugly names.

I really like Robert. Don't think I'd choose Bobby as my preferred diminutive, perhaps because dh is a fan of the Railway Children so it seems more like a girls name to me.

ds had a best friend Robert when he was about eight. His mum and dad called him Bobsie...

Great name I love Bobby as nn for Robert we couldn't use it though as too many Roberts in our families but I think it's fab

I think Robert is a lovely name and have no major objection to Bobby as a nn, although I prefer Robbie. I really don't like Bob, though.

I like Robert a lot, but shortened to Rob or Robbie if anything. I don't know why but when I think of Bobby I picture an older man and possibly a bit drunk!
