What else will I like? I'm 30 weeks but me and my husband can't make a final decision! We don't know if we're having a boy or a girl. My DH likes Gabriel and Bethan. I like Isaac and Clara. Anyone think of similar names we might agree on?!!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/06/2015 22:56

we have an Isaac!
his siblings are called Joshua, Samuel, Michael, Noah, Elizabeth and Elijah Smile

some of the other names we liked over the years ( but couldn't use) were Reuben, Jonah, Levi, Hannah, Rebecca, Miriam - you get the gist. we love Biblical names

Ponyboycurtis · 06/06/2015 22:58

My nephew is Isaac, his brother is Eli and his sister is Ruby (but was going to be Mercy)

hossenfeffer · 06/06/2015 23:27

I haven't taught an Isaac or a Clara yet.

No1son would have been Isaac 20 years ago but it was too weird and the family didn't approve.

Clarabelle is lovely.

Clara is gorgeous, not so keen in Isaac I'm afraid. Like Gabriel.

What about:

Isiah(much less-used alternative to Isaac)
Amos
Micah
Saul
Caleb (I know a Gabriel with brother Caleb)

For a girl:

Heidi (always goes with Clara in my mind thanks to the book!)
Chiara
Keira

Other names similar-ish to Bethan

Megan
Tamsin
Rowan
Seren
Carenza

I have an Isaac and a Nancy and number 3 is most likely to be Otto.

We also liked Rita and Ezra

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/06/2015 12:28

Otto is brilliant!

momb · 09/06/2015 12:40

Luke and Rachel.
No idea why; just read your choices and they seem right.

steppemum · 09/06/2015 12:58

Please ladies - Isaac has ONE s and TWO aa's.

Is it so hard?

back to the question:

Boys: Joshua, Reuben, Luke, Josiah, Matthew, I love Theo and Ezra too. I really like Gabriel
Girls: Naomi, Miriam, Bethany, I love Clara

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/06/2015 17:56

steppe

Actually while Isaac is the original Hebrew name, it has a few variant spellings including Issac, Izaac, Izaak, Isaak etc.
It's not hardWink

steppemum · 09/06/2015 22:41

Issac maybe a modern variant, but it isn't the standard spelling.
Strictly speaking Issac should be pronounced differently - with a short i instead of a long one.

Izaak, Izaac and Isaak are all based on spelling which occur in other languages, and can be pronounced either way. I have no problem with those spellings, but Issac is not pronounced Isaac.

My FIL is Izaak, or Izak for short, they are pronounced in 2 different ways. (more like eeza'ack and eezack)

I know it is a trend to spell names any way that you want, but there is standard spelling for a reason.

It's not hard

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/06/2015 07:41

you can't dictated what spelling people choose.
if it makes you happier our DS5 is IsaacWink
