What does Kitty say to you?

I think elegant, 1920s period drama, strong but feminine.

DH says Bunny a la Katie Price.

I am desperate to use it, but I've got some persuading to do. And he's made me wonder if I've got it completely wrong... Have I? What does it make you think?

Bunny and Kitty are only comparable. In that they both can refer to pets.
However Bunny remains a 'pet' name whereas Kitty is well established as a given name and is quite a classy one imo

The beautiful niece of princess Diana is Lady Kitty, so the 'high court test' nonsense is redundant

Marisola · 24/05/2015 23:28

LOL Hirples, I used to think just the same! Grin

Marisola · 24/05/2015 23:29

I think Kitty Spencer is actually Katya.

VixxFace · 24/05/2015 23:31

Real bad.

getbusyliving · 24/05/2015 23:32

Marasola no that's her younger sister

m0therofdragons · 24/05/2015 23:35

My dad's cousin is called kitty after her grandmother and she's a surgeon. I believe princess Diana's brother has a daughter called kitty.
Anyway, my youngest is also kitty and to me it's the name of a strong minded girl with confidence and wicked sense of humour - well that's dd's character. It's been a name in its own right since the 16th century and is one of the dds in pride and prejudice.
I love it - can you tell?

m0therofdragons · 24/05/2015 23:38

Come to think of it our neighbour was called bunny - he was 70 and it was apparently short for Julian. Never quite got that.

broomy123 · 24/05/2015 23:39

Love it!!! I think it's really pretty and different to the names you hear a the time! Maybe have a more formal name on birth certificate to appease your husband?

Guess girls called Kitty can be lawyers at the very least.

LunaMay · 24/05/2015 23:45

It makes me think of glee, kitty was a bully.

looki · 24/05/2015 23:59

It says quirky and cool to me.

looki · 25/05/2015 00:19

...I should add though that I know a fabulous adult Kitty and she really really really dislikes her name. Such a shame as it suits her so much.

CrystalMcPistol · 25/05/2015 00:21

My granddad's sister was a Kitty. She was a tough old broad who ran her own pub for over 50 years.

I too hate the 'high court judge test'.

sandgrown · 25/05/2015 00:27

My lovely mum was bright and articulate . Her name was Catherine but she was always called Kitty. I love it .

AGirlCalledBoB · 25/05/2015 00:29

To me I immediately think of kitty cat, hello kitty and monsters inc because boo calls sully kitty.

For me it's a cute nickname maybe. How about a name like Katherine or Katie with a nickname of Kitty?

Cliff Richard and child abuse allegations I'm afraid.

DampAndRotten · 25/05/2015 04:59

The high court judge test is a load of bollocks.

If she grows up on the UK, then her parents' wealth, the school she attends, her connections and even her accent will all impact how likely she is to become a barrister/judge. Not fair, but true.

Her name not so much - it's a complete red herring and makes me rather Angry.

Sorry to derail the thread.

I like Kitty, it makes me think of my honorary "auntie" Kitty who was my grandma's German pen pal. Prefer as nn for Kathryn/Katharine though.

vitaminC · 25/05/2015 06:25

My youngest is Kathleen, after my grandma, but we often call her Kitty at home. It suits her and it's cute.

I say use it, but definitely as a nickname for a longer name, not as a stand-alone name

SaltySeaBird · 25/05/2015 06:33

It's a family name for us with several older relatives (traced back via family tree) called Kitty as their given name. I like it.

KaputKiss · 25/05/2015 08:37

Hello!

Nice name though!

Bursarymum · 25/05/2015 09:10

The Cliff Richard reference is very obscure - I don't think of that at all.

For many hundreds of years Katherines have been known as Kitty.

getbusyliving · 25/05/2015 10:48

So obscure I haven't a clue what it is??

PrimalLass · 25/05/2015 11:04

Awful, sorry.
