I like Ottilie the best, then Lara (at a push).

To me, Tabitha is a cat's name and there are too many little Olivias.

Mehitabel6 · 24/05/2015 07:56

Olivia

sweetpeame · 24/05/2015 16:33

I'm sure I'll be told otherwise by the mumsnet massive but the only place I've ever come across the names Tabitha and Ottilie is on here Grin. Never met anyone called either of these names in real life and I live in London...

Tabitha sounds like a cats name to me, I don't like it.
Ottilie is ok but pretentious.
Olivia is perfectly nice as long as you don't mind the popularity of it.
Lara is pretty but still not that usual (but more usual than Tabitha or Ottilie in my experience). This is by far the best of your list IMO.

TempsPerdu · 24/05/2015 17:07

Tabitha is definitely my favourite of these - really lovely, as long as you don't mind at least 50% of people claiming it can only ever be a cat's name. Think it's probably the definitive Marmite name. Smile

Ottilie is nice too, but I'm not a fan of Tilly, which is the obvious shortening. Lara is OK - inoffensive, but I can't get excited about it. And Olivia, pretty as it is, is way too popular for me.

beatricequimby · 24/05/2015 17:14

Not Lara. Makes me think of Lara Croft.

Like Tabitha. Ottilie is either French or very posh but still a pretty name. Olivia is massively popular.

FatSwan · 24/05/2015 17:19

I like them all except Olivia-just because I know too many.

I have never met an Ottilie and I love it.

Love Tabitha.
Like Lara.
Olivia is nice but so popular.
Ottilie is OK, but makes me think of otoliths (bit of an obscure association, I know).

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/05/2015 14:56

I love Lara.

neolara · 25/05/2015 15:01

I have a 10yo Lara so obviously I live it. We only know one other Lara so it's not hugely popular.

kitty1989 · 25/05/2015 17:19

My little girl (11weeks) is a Tabitha so slightly biased towards it! We chose it purely because its a beautiful name & not commonplace. We picked it out months before I even got pregnant
Olivia is a lovely name but too popular, not a fan of Lara. I like Ottilie also.

Ultimately its up to you, bugger what anyone else thinks! Flowers

TandemFlux · 25/05/2015 19:24

Otille

PontyGirl · 25/05/2015 20:51

Lara!

I get comments all the time about how lovely it is, but still not that common. I love it.

I wonder whether people would get confused between Laura and Lara - like on the phone or when sending a letter might send it to Laura Surname rather than Lara Surname.

I know a teenage Ottilie, I've always thought it a pretty name.

Somethingwitty2015 · 27/05/2015 19:24

My sis called her DD Ottilie and I was a bit Hmm at first and kept thinking it was Ottiline. Love it now though - I assumed it would be Tilly but it's Ottie and suits her perfectly. Have met a couple of others at playgroup so think it's making a resurgence.

Is your surname particularly hard or soft? To my mind Lara needs a few consonants in the surname to make it distinctive, whereas Ottilie can take something softer. For example Lara Boggs OK, Lara Mallows not so much iyswim.
