Brynn for a girl?

What do people thin of Brynn? Will either be Brynn Elizbath or Brynn Alana.

I have heard it a few times on American tv shows or in films, so I definitely think it's more common there! But I really really like it and would be interested in some input :)

TBH it looks like there are vowels missing and sounds like a mispronunciation of Brian. Sorry OP I don't like it.

doublepotions · 20/05/2015 13:09

I like it for a boy, not so much for a girl. I love Quinn for a girl tho.

florascotia · 20/05/2015 13:10

Bryn is a Welsh male name - immediately makes me think of the tall, big-built, deep-voiced, bearded, bass-baritone opera singer, Bryn Terfel.

I don't think adding an extra 'n' makes Bryn into a girl's name.

hillyhilly · 20/05/2015 13:10

I misread it as Bryan

TheEmpressofBlandings · 20/05/2015 13:11

I'd think someone had misspelled Bryan too, sorry OP, it doesn't sound at all like a girl's name

PurpleDaisies · 20/05/2015 13:13

I'm another Welsh lady and it's a boy's name to me. Alana is nicer than "Elizbath" (is that how you'd spell Elizabeth or is it a typo?).

Sorry op not a fan but if you and your partner like it that's all that matters.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 20/05/2015 13:14

It's a pretty sound but again, I think people would assume male.

BertrandRussell · 20/05/2015 13:14

Only if you would call her brother Bethan.......

NerrSnerr · 20/05/2015 13:16

I thunk of Rob Brydon aka Uncle Bryn.

*think

sweetpeame · 20/05/2015 13:23

I don't like it at all for a girl. Just because it's used in America as a girls name doesn't make it a good idea! It also reminds me of Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey. Alana is a beautiful name and Elizabeth is fine also.

onceuponavino · 20/05/2015 13:23

oh gosh yes purpledaisies horrible typo there!! Was typing far too fast.

thanks for the input so far!

It'll always be Uncle Brynn for me. Singing Islands in the Stream with Nessa. Genius. Grin

Kundry · 20/05/2015 13:30

It's a boy's name. A big beefy bass baritone boy's name. Not really the image I'd look for a girl but it takes all sorts Hmm

chaletdays · 20/05/2015 13:31

No I wouldn't use it. Americans also take Irish male names and give them to females and it sounds really odd to Irish ears. There was a female actress on telly the other night called Sean. I've also heard of a female Rory and a female Aidan. Sad

DottyStripes · 20/05/2015 13:33

I agree it's a boys name im afraid,

Could you opt for a more feminine touch such as bryanna?/brianna (bree-anna)

PurpleDaisies · 20/05/2015 13:34

Phew! Thought I'd better check...I have seen some very silly spellings of nice names on here. Elizabeth is a very pretty name.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 20/05/2015 13:34

Makes me think of the MAN in G&S. Really not a feminine name imo. Alana is nice though

switchitoff · 20/05/2015 13:34

Are you sure you haven't misheard it?

Brianne or Brianna are female names. Bryn is a male name. It means hill in Welsh.

Sophronia · 20/05/2015 13:37

It's a boys name to me, and yep reminds me of Bryn from Gavin and Stacey.

HesterShaw · 20/05/2015 13:37

Bryn is a boy's name - sorry. This is a Bryn/n

Sophronia · 20/05/2015 13:38

How about Bryony instead? Or Brynja, which is a female Icelandic name.

FatWalda · 20/05/2015 14:24

Brynn for a girl? No.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 20/05/2015 14:48

Brienne is a cool name. Brynn not.
