I've asked this before. Probably a lot. Blush But I want a number to point to as far as yay or nay.

I'm to be induced with #3 on Monday morning. (And I'm really nervous, which is probably why I'm starting this thread...I want to focus on something!)

Big brother is Samuel (Sam) and big sister is Margaret (Maggie). My favorite boy's name (he is definitely a boy :)) is Jack. I've always loved it and it's not nearly so popular in my part of the States. However...

Our surname is Brick.

So, once and for all time, I put it to a final yes or no vote. Is "Jack Brick" too abrupt sounding?

No it's fine !

lunar1 · 16/05/2015 06:05

Love it!

swimmerforlife · 16/05/2015 06:23

Honestly, it's fine! Short 'n simple is good.

IWishIWishedLess · 16/05/2015 06:58

It's absolutely fine.

If you aren't keen, Jack is also a nickname (usually for John, but sometimes for Jacob or Jonathan) so you could give him a different name and nickname him Jack.

But you asked for a yes/no vote and I would say:

Yes, go for it!

stuckonnames · 16/05/2015 07:00

I am going to vote no, I think it is maybe a bit too abrupt as you suggest. But I think its more to do with the 'ck' ending as opposed to the single syllable as Sam Brick sounds great to me! Hope that makes sense!

MadameJosephine · 16/05/2015 07:08

It's a lovely name.

Good luck for Monday, hope everything goes smoothly and you and little jack are home soon Flowers

SoupDragon · 16/05/2015 07:09

I think the two ck sounds are very harsh but it's not a dreadful name combination. Jack Black seems to have done OK.

SoupDragon · 16/05/2015 07:11

Although Jack Black is actually Thomas Jacob...

Koalafications · 16/05/2015 07:13

It's quite harsh, but it wouldn't be harsh enough to put me off.

Are there any other names you like?

QuinoaLenghi · 16/05/2015 07:16

It's fine, like Jack Black. If slightly harsh but only you will think about it much. Would Jackson be an option on the birth certificate? That would soften it.

I think it's fine. Love the name Jack.

CheerfulYank · 16/05/2015 08:09

Thanks for the votes so far :)

Koala we also like William. I've sort of resigned myself to not using Jack and think of the baby as Will, but a small part of me still really wants Jack!

I think it's fine. FWIW DD has a name which doesn't go all that brilliantly with our last name - it definitely flowed the least well of our options. But it was the name which I loved most, and I don't regret giving it to her.

VixxFace · 16/05/2015 08:45

Bad together.

I really like Jack Smile, it's one of my all time favourite names and I think it's fine with your surname. With regard the two names being harsh together, you don't really use both names together. I don't introduce anyone by both their first and surname especially children. I've just asked my kids and even when calling the class roll only first names are used.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 16/05/2015 09:56

Sounds fine to me. Good luck for Monday Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/05/2015 10:02

It's not the best combination, but I think it would be ok.

Good taste OP, ds1 was going to be either Jack or Will.

I don't think it goes well together, but jack is a nice name.

How about Jackson?

InfiniteJest · 16/05/2015 11:11

I've now said "Jack Brick" out loud about 20 times in a row. The only time it really worked for me was when I said it in a Bond way, like "Brick. Jack Brick" Wink

So I personally wouldn't choose it, but think if you love it then you shouldn't rule it out - it's not like it's an offensive combo or anything. William Brick sounds better, but not really a fan of Billy Brick, Will Brick or Willy Brick.

Good luck with the induction!

FatWalda · 16/05/2015 11:47

It's a no from me, I'm afraid.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/05/2015 13:46

Americans tend to elongate Jack to Jaaack so Jack Brick won't sound as abrupt as it would said in a Manchester accent, for example.

If it's the name you love just go for it.

Good luck for Monday!
