Irish names are rarely what I would describe as 'pretty' though many of them have nice meanings e.g. Roisin means little rose etc. What kind of names do you like?

BlossomTang · 15/05/2015 21:24

Aine, Grainne, Atorn, Aisling, Eilish, Aruna, Sorcha I worked with a lot of Irish nurses in my time

chicaguapa · 15/05/2015 21:24

Aoife is soft sounding. No one will ever spell it right though!

BippityBoppity · 15/05/2015 21:26

Siobhan

Twasthecatthatdidit · 15/05/2015 21:28

Woola · 15/05/2015 21:29

Fionnuala (Nuala)

MildDrPepperAddiction · 15/05/2015 21:29

Fódla (Fo-la)

It's a very old Irish name, having a bit if a revival at the moment.

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 15/05/2015 21:30

I'm not familiar with Atorn (do you mean Etain?) or Aruna, I must say.

Sorcha, Caolfhionn, Naoise (boy or girl), Aoileann, Siún, Sinead all spring to mind.

treaclesoda · 15/05/2015 21:31

Maeve.

tortoisesarefab · 15/05/2015 21:33

I love mairead, maeve & Nuala

treaclesoda · 15/05/2015 21:34

Or actually, I suppose maybe I should have said Maebh.

Blaithnaid

Emer

KanyesVest · 15/05/2015 21:34

Cliodhna and Clodagh are two of my favourites. Both DD and I were going to be called Cliodhna, which is part of the reason I like it so much Smile

FlaviaAlbia · 15/05/2015 21:35

Aine
Bronagh
Oona
Caoimhe

None of those would be unusual but I think they're pretty.

Twasthecatthatdidit · 15/05/2015 21:36

I think you're really going to have to tell us where you are - if you're in Ireland, some of the names being recommended are like coming in and recommending Karen, Susan etc

YDdraigGoch · 15/05/2015 21:37

My favourite Irish girl's name is Breige (or is it Briege??)

FuzzyWizard · 15/05/2015 21:39

Aoife
Nuala
Saoirse

JoanHickson · 15/05/2015 21:39

oneowlgirl · 15/05/2015 21:39

Aoife, Nuala & Ciara are my favourites.

squoosh · 15/05/2015 21:44

I bet none of the people suggesting Nuala are Irish.

squoosh · 15/05/2015 21:45

My favourite Irish girl's name is Breige (or is it Briege??)

I think you mean Bríd which is pronounce breej.

306235388 · 15/05/2015 21:46

Ailish and Mairead were my top two names with dc2

looki · 15/05/2015 21:47

Siobhan, Nuala, Oona (Una) - I haven't heard of babies being called these names for over three decades. I don't think its necessary to ask why.

oneowlgirl · 15/05/2015 21:47

I'm Irish Squoosh - why do you say that? I've loved that name since I was little & always swore if I had a girl, that would be her name (but only managed to produce boys Grin)
