We are having our 4th baby in a few weeks and I'm getting so frustrated, going round in circles. I seem to be reading the same names over and over again and nothing is really sticking for us.
OH and I have quite different tastes. He likes very traditional names whereas I would like something a little different, not too out there but having grown up being one of many in my school class, I would like something a bit different. His list is William, Jacob, Ben, Alexander for boys isla, Sophia, Isabella for girls.
These are all lovely names but in our, very small, village school, I must know about 3 of each.
Anyway, names I keep going back to are
Nathaniel, Osian, Evan, Aneurin (but worry the last one may be a bit much!)
Girls list
Emmeline -worry she will spend life saying no, not Emily..
Tabitha
Beatrix
Matilda
Lydia
Anya

Any thoughts on my list would be helpful, I'd rather you guys be brutal now than my child hating their name forever!

I imagine the ones your dh/dp will prefer from your list re Nathaniel, Evan, Tabitha and Matilda... I think his opinion should probably trump ours but anyway. I like Nathaniel and Beatrix best!

2boys2girls · 14/05/2015 15:55

All your girl choices are extremely popular but very nice .... I know of a couple osians and Nathaniels and Evans so they not to different I actually think you have similar taste so im sure you'll find a middle ground. I love both choices except lydia,Ben and Aneurin
Nathaniel, Jacob Sophia and Emmeline are my favs

amy0787 · 14/05/2015 16:03

Yes, sorry, I should add, he doesn't dislike any of the names on my list. He just feels we've talked about it now and I get the feeling I'm boring him a bit!
As for the girls names being extremely popular? Really? I didn't think many were even in the top 100? I suppose I'm more bothered about knowing a lot of children personally with the same name so I'm not too concerned about that.
Thanks for replies, all helpful.

I know of at least one of each name but do hear those names at soft play, play groups etc
What about
Evelyn
Annabel
Isaac
Jonas
Jonah
Josiah
My dp was the same,he wouldn't really give an opinion on any names other than "no" until I wore him down and we got "OKs" I worked on the OKs ;-)

amy0787 · 14/05/2015 16:55

Not just me then! Evelyn lovely but quite a few old uni friends have one and know lots of Evie's, annabel and Isaac, we have have in dh's family. Never thought of Jonas or Jonah but don't dislike them so will give them some thought. I'm bad for loving a name one day and hating it the next! Thank you.

I prefer your choices OP. My DP also seems to be fond of top 20 (& bizarrely very 80s names). We've finally got it down to one. Funnily enough we both like Anya but won't be going for it.

Of your options I'd chose Lydia (DP said no to this) or Nathaniel.

Lunastarfish · 14/05/2015 17:19

Your DP choices would be nice middle names if that compromise can be made

LaBrujaPiruja · 14/05/2015 17:30

Aneurin is also one of the names of thiamine / vitamine B1; was originally named aneurin or anti-neuritic vitamin.
It was also the marketing name of some vitamin pills in Spain in the 70s or early 80s, Aneurin Forte, so it sounds odd to me (even knowing about Aneurin Bevan).

Allthatnonsense · 14/05/2015 17:33

In the same boat as you! I'm due DC4 in 4 weeks.

Lydia is gorgeous. I like Nathaniel too. We have both of these names in our house!

ArcheryAnnie · 14/05/2015 17:41

Aneurin is nice! And he'd be called Nye anyway.

I like Lydia and Beatrix - Beatrix especially.

I haven't noticed a lot of any of these about, but even if there were, don't let that put you off a name. My DS has one of the most common names there is, and it's one of the things I like about it. (It's also a family name.) In practical terms it will help later on as he will be less googleable, too....

2boys2girls · 14/05/2015 17:43

Soon as my dp said OK on a name I held him to it and he agreed that if he didn't find another name they would be an possibility , I loves Jonas/h as do ronan rohan and Rowan , love loads that's the prob with me

2boys2girls · 14/05/2015 17:45

Prob with Lydia I knew a few who had unfortunate nn of clam :-(

Martha

Some great names on your list, OP. I think they all fit your idea of something a little different, not too out there. I wanted Tabitha for DD but DH vetoed it. Nathaniel and Osian would definitely have been on the short list if DD had been a boy.

I feel your pain about your husband's lack of input! Mine showed no interest in discussing names until a week before DD's birth, and then suggested about 3 names compared to about 20 suggestions from me.
