I really love this name; old fashioned, not too popular and not too flowery. DH on the fence, so thought I'd canvas opinions on here.

Don't like it, it sounds like the word moan.

Lemonjade · 12/05/2015 11:09

I don't like it either - we had a nosey neighbour called Mona when I was a kid. I remember her vividly - rollers and hairnet (think Hilda Ogden). Sorry!

MerryMarigold · 12/05/2015 11:14

Yeah I just think 'what a moaner'. How about Winja?

DuncanQuagmire · 12/05/2015 11:18

it sounds horrible like 'moaner' - one old lady name definitely not due for a revival, sorry.

fattymcfatfat · 12/05/2015 11:19

I think of a cartoon I watched as a kid. Mona the vampire. don't like the name but thanks for making me smile. Smile

PutWittyUsernameHere · 12/05/2015 11:22

'Moaner'. Sorry.

How about Fiona?

notplayers · 12/05/2015 11:25

Okay, seems unanimous. Back to the drawing board Sad

Moan sorry

Only1scoop · 12/05/2015 11:29

I used to work with a Mona she was very Welsh and a great character so I link her with the name. I like it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 12/05/2015 11:30

I bets Monas get pervy types asking them if they like to moan.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 12/05/2015 11:32

I prefer ramona, and have it on a list, dh not keen.
I loved the books as a child

50ShadesofNope · 12/05/2015 11:33

Mona the Vampire, Mona from Friends, or a moaner...

Not the name I would pick.

IHavemyownLighthouseyouknow · 12/05/2015 11:33

I love it, it was my grandmother's name. Very Manx.

MerryMarigold · 12/05/2015 13:32

I like Ramona though.

MadgeMak · 12/05/2015 13:40

It makes me think of that song by the curly haired guy who played Charlene's brother in neighbours.

Heeeeey Mona, ooooh Mona.

Sophronia · 12/05/2015 15:04

Ramona nn Mona would be nice.

MagentaVitus · 12/05/2015 18:53

Moaner is just asking for some awkward teenage taunting.

Is Mona the Vampire still on kids TV?

Tattiesthroughthebree · 12/05/2015 21:07

I had a landlord whose wife was called Mona, and referred to her as "The Moan."

No idea what she called him, but I suspect it was something equally unflattering; they didn't seem to like each other.....

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 13/05/2015 09:18

No sorry. There's nothing pretty about it. However in this day and age it's certainly different.

Slothlorian · 13/05/2015 09:35

What about Mina ?

MerryMarigold · 13/05/2015 11:27

If she could be Ramona at school, it would help, I think. My ds has a full name for school (which teachers and friends call him) and we call him by a nickname.

AeiouAeiou · 14/05/2015 22:48

NotFlowers - I am biased but Ramona is a fab name to consider. Lots of nickname potential, including Mona if you want, but great as a name in its own too. Feisty, unfussy, unusual but not unknown and just gorgeous. What more could you possibly want? Smile
