I don't know what I'm having yet but I love these 3 makes which one do you like the most?

OP posts:

I'm not keen on any I'm afraid. If you put a gun to my head I'd choose Ariana, but I'd assume you were naming your child after Ariana Grande, who will probably have faded into obscurity before your child can spell her name.

DicteSvendsen · 10/05/2015 11:53

I knew an Arianne once and she was lovely, but Ariana seems a bit too much.

Aaliyah is dreadful. Isn't there a famous dead singer called Aaliyah? I know it's not an English name but the double aa looks so odd. I prefer Leah.

Brooklyn. This was trendy about 18 years ago. Brooke, just Brooke is ok in an American way.

IvoryMadonna · 10/05/2015 11:59

If you put a gun to my head and made me pick one, then Ariana. But it seems to be getting quite common, so I wouldn't be too keen.

wispywoo1 · 10/05/2015 14:12

I teach an Aaliyah. Quite a rare name but I can never remember if it's A-lee-ya or A-lie-ah. This may annoy her/you in the future. Eliana is nicer than Ariana imo. Do not like Brooklyn.

AgentCooper · 10/05/2015 14:16

Aaliyah or more often Aliyah (IME) is a beautiful Arabic name. I love it. I think the double A spelling is Hebrew.

binspin · 10/05/2015 14:18

They're all a bit...... erm chav. (shoot me).

sweetpeame · 10/05/2015 14:35

One of my cousins is called Alia pronounced AL-ia rather than Aa-LI-yah. Alia is an Arabic name, my cousin has a Morroccan parent so it works culturally for her. I don't particularly like Aaliyah as a name and it does remind me of the dead singer but it doesn't sound as strange to me as it might do to other people.

Brooklyn is an awful name.

Ariana is also not my taste but probably the best out of this bunch. But I would never consider it as a name for my DC.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 10/05/2015 15:37

Ariana is lovely, it means silver.
Aaliyah and Brooklyn are both fine, not my taste but fine.

bendybrickpumpkinpatch · 10/05/2015 15:40

is this a joke?

fiveacres · 10/05/2015 15:47

Ariana for me.

The other two aren't to my taste really. I think many people will see Brooklyn as a boys name, due to young Beckham :)

fiveacres · 10/05/2015 15:48

'Is this a joke'

Er - Yeah; I'm sure someone thought of names you didn't like and decided to post them on the Internet to annoy you Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 10/05/2015 15:51

Ariana is the nicest, but I prefer Arianna.

MummyPiggy87 · 10/05/2015 19:33

I find them a bit chav tbh.

GuatemalanRum · 10/05/2015 20:10

I went to school with an Arianna (pronounced Ari-ah-na) she had German parents I think. It's a lovely name.

Aaliyah is a beautiful Arabic name. Gorgeous. And I doubt anyone your daughter's age will associate it with the singer.

Not keen on Brooklyn, makes me think of the Beckham's son.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 10/05/2015 20:11

MummyPiggy - I think you need to live a little!

MamaLazarou · 10/05/2015 20:11

How about Brooke? Sorry people have been so rude to you, OP.

MummyPiggy87 · 10/05/2015 20:21

penguin an opinion was asked and I gave mine. It's because I know a Aaliyah and Brooke and i associate the name with them.

CruCru · 10/05/2015 21:19

Aaliyah is a proper (Muslim) name. The others aren't.

Haffdonga · 10/05/2015 21:28

Brooklyn (or any other place name Devon/London/India/Rio/Basingstoke etc) only really makes sense if that place is very special to you.

Otherwise the poor child has a lifetime of explaining:

  • no I don't come from there
  • no I wasn't conceived there
-no I've never been there -no my parents haven't been there either
  • no, I have no bloody idea why.

I'd think it through carefully.

bobajob · 10/05/2015 21:34

Cru - Ariana (or Arianna or Ariane) is a proper name too.

Seriouslyffs · 10/05/2015 21:44

Nice posts Hmm
Stick around Louisa and don't take the responses to heart.

nooka · 10/05/2015 21:48

They just seem like very different names to me. I would expect an Aaliyah to be Arabic or Muslim, a Brooklyn to be American and an Arianna to have Italian heritage. Seems really odd to have them on the same list.

But then I didn't get the pop culture link which I guess is what they have in common. I quite like Arianna.

CruCru · 12/05/2015 00:21

Ah thanks, I'd never heard of it.

swimmerforlife · 12/05/2015 00:53

Aaliyah is beautiful, I like Ariana too but makes me think of Ariana Grande. Not keen on Brooklyn as it makes me think of the Beckhams.

Op all names are chavvy on here unless they are granny chick names like Ottile or Clemency

swimmerforlife · 12/05/2015 00:56
