We now know were having a girl dh and Dd are convinced on Isla which i do like and although popular there arent many where we live. I also really like Matilda but having a Lily is it a bit too close?

That was my thoughts,we know a Matilda and it doesnt get shortened at all,but i also know that i wont have control over that once shes at school age. ??

I think that Lily and Matilda sounds lovely and not too close in their long form but you may run in to trouble with nicknames (Lily and Tilly, as mentioned upthread, is not ideal!)

Isla is a nice enough name. I wouldn't use it but that it because I knew a really awful girl named Isla when I was at primary school.

You could shorten Matilda to Mattie instead

Or Tilda.

I think you need another 'soft' sounding name to go with Lily, so something like

I wouldn't go for another flower name, just sounds too themed. I like Matilda but wouldn't use it alongside Lily. I know siblings Lily and Dora.
