No idea what names to choose

I really keep changing my mind over baby names.
Is Jack to common for a boy?

Gone through lots of books and sites and end up more confused.

How did you choose yours ?

Jack is nice. I usually just go with what feels right to me.

DH and I compiled a list each of ten to fifteen that we liked from name books/ones we always liked, then swapped lists and crossed off ones we didn't like and so narrowed it down considerably that way! Also it makes you realise if you really like a name if you are sad to see it go, and want to fight for it. Could you do this with the baby's dad?

My ds is called something my DH wasn't keen on to begin with, but I realised how much I loved it and turned it around. He loves it now and can't imagine any other name for him.

Our boys name was just outside top 20 and girls outside the top 300, but we only looked at that after we'd chosen them, so I don't know if that would have made us rethink if they'd been near the top, but I think probably not. Go with what you like. By the time you've discounted names of those close to you, people you don't like etc there are very few to actually focus on I find.

I have a friend who called their daughter a fairly uncommonly used name a few years ago, it shot to number one shortly after and stayed there, so you can't control popularity as such, may as well go for what you can imagine calling your child for years to come.

If you are drawn to a name then go with it. The fact that it is perceived as popular is because it is a good name! I know no Jacks under the age of ten.

I have always had a soft spot for Jack and see it as a name that suits males through all stages of life. I don't think it's as common as it used to be and if you love a name, go for it!
