I do like it but is it chavvy?

If so, alternatives?

bridgetsmummy · 04/05/2015 14:33

Don't like it.
Sorry

Bert2e · 04/05/2015 14:34

Chavvy round here I'm afraid :-(

mrsdavidbowie · 04/05/2015 14:34

Awful. But I don't like K names.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 04/05/2015 14:35

I'd never heard of it before Wayne and Colette Rooney's child, but don't like it

What is it about it you like? One syllable? Strong consonant start? Vowel ending?

Yes, it was actually seeing that Wayne Rooney had a 'Kai' that made me have second thoughts!

No idea why I like it - short, snappy, unusual (around these country bumpkin parts anyway and I work in primary school)

Yup proper chavvy

Excitedforxmas · 04/05/2015 14:45

It's a dogs name

Blarblarblar · 04/05/2015 14:45

Awful sorry. Trying to think of similar sounding names

Corbin or Corey or Corrin

Blarblarblar · 04/05/2015 14:46

Short snappy

Max

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 04/05/2015 14:52

The only Kai I've met had an ASBO.

Then again there are plenty of Kais I haven't met who don't have ASBOs. .

Just don't call him Nigel.

Sophronia · 04/05/2015 14:59

I know a woman who named her son Kaiser "Kai"

I used to like the name Kai, it reminded me of the Snow Queen. I think it does have 'chavvy' connotations now though, unfortunately.

iwouldgoouttonight · 04/05/2015 15:01

I always thought it was a wayne Rooney type name but I've recently met a very middle class well educated couple with a baby Kai so maybe it's not. It's not too my taste though, I'm not so keen on one syllable names (but that's just my personal preference).

Sophronia · 04/05/2015 15:02

Incidentally, in Germany, where I currently live, it's a bit of a middle-aged man's name. Definitely not cool or trendy!

iwouldgoouttonight · 04/05/2015 15:03

Could you use Kit as an alternative (short for Christopher/Christian)?

Clarabumps · 04/05/2015 15:06

Kai is a dogs name. Kit is beautiful!

missmargot · 04/05/2015 15:07

I'm not a fan.

I do like Kit though, or how about Max, Jude, Seth or Stan.

KoalaDownUnder · 04/05/2015 15:11

It's really awful, IMO.

jingjongjollyfeckers · 04/05/2015 15:45

I like Max but with the surname it sounds like a porn star... don't know why but it just does!!

OP posts:
manicinsomniac · 04/05/2015 16:05

I like it

SirChenjin · 04/05/2015 16:09

It's dog rough round here. Don't like it at all.

Allstoppedup · 04/05/2015 16:17

It's funny that it's seen as such a "chavvy" name.

The only Kai I ever knew was a public school bo, skater who grew up to be a cyber goth...Grin

Snowflake15 · 04/05/2015 20:52

We like Malachi nn Kai, that could be an option? Although if what you like is the short name then you might like:

Troy
Blake
Leo
Theo
Eli

OddBoots · 04/05/2015 20:58

Cai (with a C) is a name I have a liberal sprinkling of in my family tee going back many generations so I see it very positively but it looks like many don't.
