Is this too much...?

We're expecting dc2 and are not going to find out the sex. My current favourite boy first name is Nathaniel but we want to use Matthew/Matthias as middle name - is Nathaniel Matthias too much? My second fav is Alexander. Votes or alternative suggestions please!

Go for it. People rarely use middle names so I think it fine.

I like both names but they are too similar to work together - Natty Matty? However most people never use the middle name so it depends how important is is to you that they 'flow'

Thanks both. Hmmm why do they let us name children while hormonal - I don't trust my judgement at the moment Grin

I think to sound good with Nathaniel you need a short middle name e.g. Nathaniel James but it also depends on your surname.
I could count on the fingers of one hand the people who know my DCs middle names more than a week after the birth announcements have gone out. If there is a reason you particularly want Matthew/Mathias then use it.
They do both mean 'gift of God' though, which is perhaps labouring the point? Grin

DS2 is Nathan Matthew. I didn't notice the Nat Matt things in my hormonal state.

Too much "ath" with the two together.

Alexander Matthias would be nice.

Bellejournee · 04/05/2015 09:33

I think Nathaniel Matthias sounds best :-)

SoldierBear · 04/05/2015 09:36

I think it's lovely.

Quite a few people do use their middle names rather than their first names, or use both names by preference. both of yours are great and go very well together without being too similar in look or sound

Ham69 · 04/05/2015 09:46

Please just use them if you like them. You so rarely say the middle name anyway, it's really not worth worrying about. Most men and boys I know have the middle name James! Please just go with what you like. FWIW, I think Nathaniel Matthias sound great together.

Nathaniel and Alexander are two of my absolute favourite boys' names and I think they sound great together.

However, I also think Nathaniel Matthias is good. People just won't say Natty Matty!

glittertits · 05/05/2015 20:28

I say go for it.

Have you thought about which nicknames you like? I know a lovely Nathaniel who uses Nate, which I think is brilliant.
