Urgent Help Please

Hi, am looking for some urgent help please.

My son was born a week early following a section but we have no name!!!

We live in Scotland and I am called Nuala (no one can pronounce it never mind spell it) and my husband Neil and we have a 6 year old son called Aaron. Our surname is Woodside (a bit of mouthful).

My new son is now 2 days old and we just cannot decide on a name. We have considered Lucas, Euan. Marcus , Logan and Adam amongst others but just cannot decide.

We quite like a short name that cannot be shortened and would prefer a more powerful name that has nothing to do with celebrities and do not want anything too obscure.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as we feel we are under pressure to come up with an name from family and friends.

Many many thanks in advance.

Euan. I think it goes well with Aaron, personally.

Guin1 · 03/05/2015 11:00

Really like Magnus from your second list. And Marcus from your first list.

SoupDragon · 03/05/2015 11:05

I love Lucas and Ethan.

RJnomore · 03/05/2015 11:06

I like Lucas and Ethan but they are a bit of the moment round here. Magnus would be my favourite.

Magnus and Marcus are both fabulous names and not in the least obscure.

A few others:

Marco
Jude
Ivan
Cormac

Ethan is too 'now' for my taste.

Sophronia · 03/05/2015 11:22

I love Magnus

IvoryMadonna · 03/05/2015 11:47

Another vote for Marcus or Magnus. Not obscure at all!

I really don't like Ethan - it sounds like chemicals, and not far away from methane, yuk!

Izzy24 · 03/05/2015 11:51

Magnus.

Nuala is a lovely name which I do know how to pronounce Smile

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 03/05/2015 11:55

I like Ethan and Lucas from your second list. but I think Ethan goes better as a sibling to Aaron.

Hakluyt · 03/05/2015 12:02

Lachlan

StampysLoveGarden · 03/05/2015 12:02

I'd avoid a name with an S in it with your sur name. But I'm fussier than most, I'm Irish and wouldn't struggle with Nuala at all, although, Nuala sounds like an older person's name to me. Fionn comes in to my head but it's the first half of your name so maybe not!

Ewan works best with your sur name but it's a little bland lined up next to Aaron. Just too many vowels between the two names.

What about Luca without the S?

Raoul?
Robbie is a nod to Scotland
Patrick
Lorcan

StampysLoveGarden · 03/05/2015 12:04

jacob and aaron sound like siblings but somebody who knows the bible might tell me that 's not a good sibling match.

StampysLoveGarden · 03/05/2015 12:05

Aaron and Reuben?

WireCat · 03/05/2015 12:48

I love Euan.

Allalonenow · 03/05/2015 13:29

I think Euan and Aaron are too close in sound to use together.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2015 13:48

I like Marcus or even simply Marc/Mark

Other suggestions:
Matthew
Murdo
Michael

Nwoodside123 · 04/05/2015 06:55

Cheers again for your help. I think after negotiation we are down to:-
Euan Woodside
Oliver Woodside
Marcus Woodside
Ethan Woodside

Another 24 hours has passed and really starting to feel the heat. We are not sure what sounds best. Is Marcus too obscure - my other half hated Magnus but likes Marcus. Is Oliver too soft rather than the quite strong name we wanted, although does it compliment Aaron better. Are there just too many Ethan's out there at the moment. And finally is Euan outdated or is it timeless in Scotland and again too similar to Aaron although we do not think we would have an issue with that.

I am losing a lot of sleep over this and just want to get it right.

Again many thanks for your continued help. Today is 'D' day.

I don't think Marcus is too obscure at all.

We have more Olivers than Ethans where I am in S London. I prefer Ethan but both are popular.

I like Euan. One of DS2s friends is a Euan, he's 14. I have no idea if it's dated or not!

1lov3comp5 · 04/05/2015 07:08

How about Eunan rather than Euan? My friends DH is called that (good luck choosing!)

shinysparklythings · 04/05/2015 07:09

I would go Marcus. It has been in everyone of your considering lists and is a nice name. Aaron and Marcus sound great together. I personally know 3 grown up Marcus' so I wouldn't say it's obscure! X good luck, and congratulations x

FeckoffandDie · 04/05/2015 07:18

I think Oliver or Ethan flow better than the others.

WireCat · 04/05/2015 09:15

Euan or Oluver.

But they're all nice.

fishfingerSarnies · 04/05/2015 09:24

I'd say Marcus it's not obscure at all and not too popular like Oliver and Ethan, though they are both nice names.
Euan would be my second choice.
Congratulation!
