Hi there,

I'm struggling to decide on a name for my first boy, he's 1 week old!! Surname will be Bennett

Jackson
Frank
Reggie
Gray
Woody
Gus

Please be brutally honest, especially with Jackson - as I know it's hugely popular in the US - but what are people's opinions of it here?

ANy help greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

xx

I love Jackson! Its my favourite from your choices.

bluewisteria · 01/05/2015 15:00

Augustus Bennett, Gus for short?

bluewisteria · 01/05/2015 15:02

I like Woody, but I'm always aware that wood is a v common euphemism for penis in America...

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 01/05/2015 15:22

Jackson - not to my taste I'm afraid. Very American.
Frank - good solid name
Reggie - I quite like this. Would you put Reginald on the BS?
Gray - no
Woody - no
Gus - if you have Scottish roots then Fergus is lovely. Angus is OK. Augustus is a bit much imo!

Allalonenow · 01/05/2015 15:28

Not too keen on Jackson, but like Reggie a lot, especially if Reginald goes on birth certificate.
Also think Augustus is really cool.
Don't like Woody.

IvoryMadonna · 01/05/2015 16:10

Yes to Reginald, because he can also be Rex if that suits him better.

Hoodedmoron · 01/05/2015 17:27

I like Frank from your list, and Woody is cute, you could use Edward on the birth certificate?

JulyKit · 01/05/2015 17:34

i wouldn't usually like Jackson as a first name, but Jackson Bennett is a great sounding name.

Frank Bennett sounds very pensior-ish, but not in a chic way. Same for Reggie Bennett. I'm immediately thinking of a chubby 90 year old in brown slacks and cardigan and a bungalow for both names.

Gray - nope. Although Bennett Gray might be OK.

Augustus Bennett. Good name.

Woody is a bit try-hard with any last name.

JulyKit · 01/05/2015 17:34

*pensioner-ish, even. You know what I mean.

Sophronia · 01/05/2015 18:26

I like Jackson and Frank. How about Angus nn Gus? Angus Bennett sounds good to me.

sweetpeame · 01/05/2015 19:53

Jackson - very American. I don't like surnames as first names as a general rule but it could be worse!
Frank - sounds like an old man
Reggie - as per Frank
Gray - I don't see how this could be classed as a name? Isn't like calling your child Green or Yellow etc?
Woody - maybe ok as a family nn but only if he has a "proper" name he can use when he's older
Gus - not my taste but not too bad
