Sapphire - chavvy or posh?

Debating the name Sapphire with a friend, she puts it firmly in the 'Chardonnay' camp and I consider it posh, more akin to Cordelia or Jacinta. What do you think?

I don't think either. I think it sounds like a cabaret singer's stage name and it should have an exclamation mark after it. Sapphire!

I think Emerald is a posh jewel name.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 29/04/2015 13:31

Stripper

Lucy61 · 29/04/2015 13:32

Rough

LondonRocks · 29/04/2015 13:34

Doll name.

Or sister of Champayne

NightsOfGethsemane · 29/04/2015 13:37

I knew a trio of sisters named Sapphire, Crystal and Topaz. They were definitely not posh!

ParkingFred · 29/04/2015 13:39

Definitely a stripper's name. Lol at posh!

HattyMonkey · 29/04/2015 13:39

I actually wanted to call my little girl Sapphire, when I was 8. Sapphire and Steel was at it's height.

I did have 2 dd's neither are called Sapphire Grin

squoosh · 29/04/2015 13:39

I think I'd rather be Sapphire than Crystal or Topaz. At least you can shorten it to Saffy which doesn't sound too outrageous.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 29/04/2015 13:40

I quite like it Blush but then I'm more chavvy than posh!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 29/04/2015 13:48

Stripper name absolutely.

FrogletinaBallerina · 29/04/2015 13:59

I've seen it spelt Saffyre Confused IMO a 'chavvy' type name.

Heels99 · 29/04/2015 14:01

Yes stripper. Or horse.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 29/04/2015 14:02

Definitely not posh. Have we ever had a Queen Sapphire? No. Exactly. Royalty is the acid test.

squoosh · 29/04/2015 14:04

There's a royal Savannah. This amuses me greatly.

ReallyTired · 29/04/2015 14:04

Sounds like a name that a pregnant 15 year would inflict on their daughter, almost certainly misspelt. Or it sounds like the stage name for a stripper.

puppy123 · 29/04/2015 14:05

Awful, definitely not posh!

AlmaMartyr · 29/04/2015 14:06

More like a Chardonnay I'd say.

BiscuitsForBreakfast · 29/04/2015 14:07

Awful.

TravellingToad · 29/04/2015 14:08

definitely in the Chardonnay camp

looki · 29/04/2015 14:08

Not posh. Saffron might be better? Probably not though tbh. They are in the same camp.

squoosh · 29/04/2015 14:10

I really like Saffron. Reminds me of the beautiful Saffron Burrows.

manicinsomniac · 29/04/2015 14:23

I don't think it's popular enough to be categorised or put into a 'type'.

I just think of it as an unusual name.

Quite pretty too.

TSSDNCOP · 29/04/2015 14:29

You have to have it double-barrelled such as Sapphire May or Sapphire Rose to really crown it off.

Staggered you haven't had your arse handed to you by the Mumsnet massive for using the C word Grin

lemonyone · 29/04/2015 14:32

Not posh. Stripper name.

I did meet a French Saphir the other day. Said with a French accent it's adorable.

PannaDoll · 29/04/2015 14:36

Very bloody not posh lol. Seriously you debated this?
