Boy's name Tiger

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with ds3. Ds1 and ds2 both have unusual names. I like Atticus for ds3 but husband isn't so keen. The only name we both like and can agree on so far is Tiger but I'm worried it's a little too out there.

What are people's thoughts?

It is a bit 'out there' admittedly but I actually quite like it and it is simple to spell & pronounce so no complications on that front either

Assuming it fits nicely with your surname then I don't see why you shouldn't use it

I've met three Tigers through my work, ranging from newborn to about 6. It's different no doubt, but it really suited them tbh.

ReallyBadParty · 28/04/2015 16:23

Far too much pressure on a child Grin

Stillill · 28/04/2015 16:25

This is my son's nn based on his much more out there real name! I love it and it has caused no problems. Now I want to know your other children's names for inspiration for me!!

lemonyone · 28/04/2015 16:26

Oh please try and persuade your DH to go with Atticus. Fantastic name.

Tiger…not too keen I'm afraid as I feel the pressure on a DC could be quite a lot if he turns out to be a mild person.

Takver · 28/04/2015 16:33

I like it - I know a lovely teenage boy called Tiger.

AbsInTheClub · 28/04/2015 16:34

I like it! Do it!

Sophronia · 28/04/2015 16:43

I'm not keen.

TheBoov · 28/04/2015 16:44

Atticus - lovely.
Tiger - bonkers. Asking for trouble.

Guin1 · 28/04/2015 16:45

Love Atticus. Like Tiger too, but suggest you either use it as a nn, or as a mn or if you do use it as a first name, make sure he has a less out there mn in case he doesn't want to stand out too much. (We have 2.8yo DS with nn Bear - he loves it! He doesn't actually know his real name is Edward Grin)

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 28/04/2015 16:46

I'm sorry, but it's rediculous.

grendel · 28/04/2015 16:51

I met a new mum with a baby called 'Tiger' which I thought was quite cute but did worry about the boy living up to the name. What if he turned out to be shy and retiring? It's a bit like calling a girl 'Grace' - we know one who has turned out to be a bit (ahem) sturdy and surly and people never fail to comment on the discrepancy between the name and the appearance/personality, whereas if she was just called something neutral like 'Emma' I'm sure no-one would notice.

RupertsGirlGroom · 28/04/2015 16:53

My name test was to imagine the receptionist in the doctors calling it out to a busy waiting room.

Smartleatherbag · 28/04/2015 16:54

Tiger is a sweet nickname. DO NOT give him that as a name!

noddyholder · 28/04/2015 16:56

Like it a lot It was on my list for ds who is now 20! I called him something else in the end which people also say is asking for trouble which I never got and still don't as no one has ever mentioned it negatively apart from on MN and I still love it and so does he!

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 28/04/2015 16:58

Um , no, just no

squoosh · 28/04/2015 17:01

Fine as a family nickname

(I'm hoping this will hypnotise you into realising it's a terrible idea as a 'real' name)

DoItTooJulia · 28/04/2015 17:02

I like it! One of my sons has a (fairly) out there name and I struggled to find out for ds2. Wish I'd have thought of Tiger!

The naysayers just aren't into out there names, so in my experience, won't get any of the out there choices. It would be boring if we all had James, Tom and Jacob!

DoItTooJulia · 28/04/2015 17:02

*find one, not out.

squoosh · 28/04/2015 17:04

I love unusual names, but Tiger isn't even a name.

SevenEleven · 28/04/2015 17:07

Love the name Atticus, but I think Tiger is best as a nickname it middle name. I know its easy to start imagining all kinds of names as fabulous once you get going (we had quite a list for DS!) but you have to remember the real boy and man he will become. Rightly or wrongly people do make assumptions based on names.

SevenEleven · 28/04/2015 17:08

Sorry, nickname OR middle name

madreloco · 28/04/2015 17:09

Call him Tadgh and have Tiger as a nickname. Would you call a child Lion, or Elephant? No, because they are animals and not names.

SevenEleven · 28/04/2015 17:18

How do you pronounce Tadgh?

squoosh · 28/04/2015 17:19

It's like 'thigh' with a hard g on the end, thigh-g.
