I'm 28 weeks pregnant with ds3. Ds1 and ds2 both have unusual names. I like Atticus for ds3 but husband isn't so keen. The only name we both like and can agree on so far is Tiger but I'm worried it's a little too out there.

What are people's thoughts?

Name him Tiger. It's a Grrrrrreat Name! Do it!

sweetpeame · 28/04/2015 19:55

Tiger is an awful name for a baby/boy/man. I honestly think it would be hard for people to take him seriously with a name like that. I don't like Atticus either although it's popular on mumsnet. Have never met one in real life but it's far, far better than Tiger.

Bowlersarm · 28/04/2015 19:59

I like it. I wouldn't have been brave enough, but I do like it.

KittieCat · 28/04/2015 20:35

lemonyone not much to tell. It was for the BBC 3 prog Tyger Takes On... It would be more accurate to blame the programming style of BBC 3 than him but he was a real pita who pretended to not understand simple facts and was v difficult.
You're right Raahh y not i.

anxiousannie10 · 28/04/2015 21:37

Makes me think of Tiger Balm... Smile
There's always Leo ! Lion association.

Reignbeau · 29/04/2015 17:42

Name of the teenage son in the awful chav family in the programme Benidorm. Don't like it.

nooka · 30/04/2015 05:27

I think that Tiger is just a bit silly. Can you imagine having to give 'Tiger' to receptionists/ Starbucks servers etc? I think it could be a very embarrassing name. OK in celeb circuits maybe when 'out there' is the norm, but in your run of the mill school/job etc I think it could be more of a liability than a blessing. (and I have a very unusual name that I love, so I'm not against unusual names per sey).

BettyCatKitten · 30/04/2015 05:46

You have to remember he'll be looking for work one day, names influence employers, choose wisely.

reuset · 30/04/2015 10:57

I think that Tiger is just a bit silly.

This sums it up for me. I mean, would you like to be called Tiger?

Theas18 · 30/04/2015 11:01

Imagine Great uncle Tiger or Grandad Tiger- just no! this is a person not a baby you are naming, they will be a big grown up for a long time with a babies nickname

Tyger Drew Honey on the telly has it as middle name ( and comes from a bonkers background- his dad is a porn star !)

TwartFaceBeetj · 30/04/2015 11:24

I know a teenager called Tiger, I have known the family for years, it just seems normal to me now.
He's a loverly boy, and his close friends him tigger for his nn

timelyreminder · 30/04/2015 11:45

I would employ a Tiger, why not?

There's more variety of names these days.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2015 11:48

You're naming a child not a pet cat.

kelda · 30/04/2015 11:52

'Robin is a bird, not an animal'

Grin read some funny things on here! I think you are getting confused between animal and mammal.

Leo/Leon is a good suggestion, as is Wolf - Wolfgang,Wolfram, Wulfric. All 'real' names although I'm sure Tiger Woods would argue he has a real name too.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2015 11:55

Tyger Drew Honey on the telly has it as middle name

Yes, but his first names appear to be Lindzi James.

squoosh · 30/04/2015 11:59

Lindzi James Tyger Drew Honey?!

Boy's name Tiger
SoupDragon · 30/04/2015 12:00

Indeed.

What about tadgh (pronounced tige)

My brother has a very out there name and he's never lived up to it as he's so soft!

IvoryMadonna · 30/04/2015 12:50

Tiger Woods' real first name is Eldrick, which is a made-up name according to wikipedia. Tiger is just a nn.

MrsNuckyThompson · 30/04/2015 12:52

Sorry but this is so bonkers.

I always think to myself: Do you want your son to be a doctor or the prime minister or a nobel peace prize winner? And if so, do you really want him to be up there called Tiger? NO!!

SirChenjin · 30/04/2015 12:57

Just don't. It's awful to inflict that on another person. I'm sure people will get to know how out there you are in time anyway, without giving your child this name.

RedToothBrush · 30/04/2015 13:25

GO FOR IT if you like it. Bugger everyone elses opinion.

A name can help define a character rather than be the opposite. Its not something to live up to as such, it will have more influence on the way others react to him.

So its a bold and strong name choice. People will respond accordingly. I think its a powerful gift to give a child.

IvoryMadonna · 30/04/2015 13:30

It's a thoughtless and selfish gift.

squoosh · 30/04/2015 13:31

Its not something to live up to as such, it will have more influence on the way others react to him.

Exactly. I can just imagine the tedious reactions.
