Boy's name Tiger

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with ds3. Ds1 and ds2 both have unusual names. I like Atticus for ds3 but husband isn't so keen. The only name we both like and can agree on so far is Tiger but I'm worried it's a little too out there.

What are people's thoughts?

madreloco yet Robin is perfectly acceptable?

ShatnersBassoon · 28/04/2015 17:33

I must have been hypnotised. All I can think is 'fine as a family nickname, fine as a family nickname...'

Imagine trying to forge a serious career and having to introduce yourself as Tiger.

madreloco · 28/04/2015 17:34

It's not at all like Thigh, the h is silent. It's just Tiger without the -er .

Robin is a bird, not an animal, and lots of birds names are used as people names. I've never met a Hippopotomus or a Wildebeest though.

squoosh · 28/04/2015 17:36

Irish names differ a lot depending on your accent and in this case how you pronounce 'thigh'. In my accent Tadhg sounds like thigh-g.

squoosh · 28/04/2015 17:37

My powers are clearly working Shatners! Wink

florascotia · 28/04/2015 17:39

Robin sounds like the bird's name but has a different meaning. It originated as a nickname for Robert.

Tiger is a very jolly nickname - but IMHO would only be a good 'proper' name if a baby had fangs and big whiskers and stripy fur.

madreloco · 28/04/2015 17:41

It sounds like thigh only if you don't pronounce the h in thigh at all, which is very common in all Irish accents but pretty unhelpful when using it as a aid to pronounciation for non-Irish people.

This is how it sounds:

crje · 28/04/2015 17:41

Tadhg is like tiger without the R

Think any boring name would be better than tiger or other such names.

Think of the child , not yourself !!

squoosh · 28/04/2015 17:42

I do beg your pardon madreloco.

MackerelOfFact · 28/04/2015 17:44

I was sat behind a toddler Tiger on the Eurostar recently and it sounded ridiculous.

Tiger isn't even a nice sounding word really is it? Atticus is great though.

YDdraigGoch · 28/04/2015 17:45

What if the not turns out to be a wimp???Blush

CycleChic · 28/04/2015 17:48

How into golf are you and your dh?

Figster · 28/04/2015 17:49

Ridiculous sorry

Fletcherl · 28/04/2015 17:52

Looker after a Tiger who was a shy gentle soul. When he came to me he asked to be called John as he found people kept teasing and ' attacking'
him.

Koalafications · 28/04/2015 17:53

An absolutely ridiculous name for a person.

aoife24 · 28/04/2015 17:56

Well despite being called Tiger Drew-Honey, he seems like a pretty balanced lad, so why not?

KittieCat · 28/04/2015 17:59

Tiger Drew Honey is anything but balanced! I had to work with him and he's most pleased with himself and unpleasant to deal with.

I used to like the name Tiger but yes, Tiger D-H and the philander Woods have put me off somewhat.

Ahem, as you were.

lemonyone · 28/04/2015 18:02

KittieCat - tell all!

He can't have had a very normal life though, what with having the King Dong as a father etc.
I definitely associate the name Tiger with porn-star parents now because of him. He doesn't really look like a Tiger either, does he? It's too exotic-y for someone who looks like a nice simple Daniel or Ben.

Raahh · 28/04/2015 18:08

I think of it as a girl's name- but only because there are are 2 Tiger Lilys at school.

Though really, I don't think it is a proper name at all.

But it is fine as a family nicknameGrin

Raahh · 28/04/2015 18:10

And T D-H is actually Tyger not Tiger. Which makes it even worse, imo.

squoosh · 28/04/2015 18:11

Maybe his parents were William Blake fans.........

timelyreminder · 28/04/2015 18:25

Much prefer Tiger to Atticus.

Stillill · 28/04/2015 18:59

My tiger is in fact Tadhg. Pr. like Tiger without the r

Raahh · 28/04/2015 19:26

squoosh Grin
