Is Anna really gaining in popularity? I've mentioned it once or twice on mn and people always say that frozen has made it more popular. But in real life have you actually met more baby Annas this year?
Thanks

I haven't noticed an increase either. Anna is a lovely name and not overused.

My dd is anna. She goes to two different nurseries and there isn't another one at either or any of the groups we go to. My colleague just had a baby Anna though and it's always being suggested on here so it was that that made me think it was getting more popular. Doubt frozen has had much of an influence. No one would deliberately name their dd after a disney cartoon and it's a name that's always been well known so doesn't need bringing to piblic attention. No one calls dd Arna btw.

Rhubarbgarden · 26/04/2015 18:29

I don't know any little Annas, only adults. I think it's a lovely name.

There are loads around my age (mid 20's) where I live but I haven't come across any small ones recently.

I only know one Anna and she's in her fifties. It's a lovely name Smile

Elsa has appeared into the top 100 though - sure there must be a bit of a Frozen link there.

longestlurkerever · 26/04/2015 20:01

timely I suppose with Elsa it's that people have been reminded of the name. Not sure that Anna was ever forgotten about.

fionadal · 26/04/2015 20:36

Yes, I really feel it is going to be very popular. Frozen has brought the name to people's attention again. It's not that they are deliberately naming their daughter after a Frozen character - it's just that the name is "in the ether" again, so they're more likely to use it. I know three Annas under-2 round here (SE) and I bet there'll be more.

Also, as names like Ava and Amelia decline , Anna may be the next " "A" name (also ending in an a)" to replace them.

This is all just IMO of course. I just feel it's on the rise...

I would steer clear if you really want to avoid popularity.

I hardly ever hear Hannah however - think that's on a downward trend. Would that be an alternative. Or Anya?

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/04/2015 21:19

Anne? Could use Annie as a nickname (I've always loved that the nickname is actually longer than the name itself).

longestlurkerever · 26/04/2015 21:40

I actually come across more Hannahs (also SE)!

southeastastra · 26/04/2015 21:43

it's a really pretty underused name, i've known some lovely annas

mandy214 · 26/04/2015 21:54

2 in my DD's year (age 5).

But surely most people don't associate the name Anna with Frozen - certainly it's pronounced "Honour" rather than Anna. The merchandise obviously uses Anna though.
