Girls name shortlist

I have 3 girls already Iris, Hetty and Mabel.

Really struggling with a fourth name. We love Elsie but can't use it as its my niece's name. Other names we are considering are

Betsy
Ivy
Ethel
Nellie

Or do you have any ideas?! Thanks

I think Nellie goes best with those. How about Edith?

toddlerwrangling · 24/04/2015 13:20

Betsy. Lovely and cute for a baby/toddler and if shortened from Elizabeth nice for a grown woman. The others I'm not keen on - and the rhyme with "smelly" would put me off Nellie (imagine poor child in the school playground!)

toddlerwrangling · 24/04/2015 13:20

Agree that Edith/Edie goes nicely too.

Rhubarbgarden · 24/04/2015 13:22

Annie?

timelyreminder · 24/04/2015 13:46

I like Ivy best from your shortlist, and the suggestion of Edith/Edie.

Lucy
Josephine/Josie
Sylvia
Clara
Olivia
Mary
Georgia
Isobel
Louisa

Like Betsy from your list. Or Nell, but not Nellie. Ivy sounds too close to Iris.

How about:
Cora
Florence
Lillian
Alice
Eliza
Greta

Nancy, Clara, Grace,

Guin1 · 24/04/2015 14:10

Esme
Elspeth (although would prob end up with nn Elsie)
Elowen
Katherine
Nancy

Koalafications · 24/04/2015 14:13

I think Nancy would go very well with your other name choices.

Betsy is fine but not a favourite of mine.

I think Ethel and Ivy are lovely.

Sorry but I think Nellie is horrible.

Tattiesthroughthebree · 24/04/2015 14:23

I think Ivy doesn't work when you already have an Iris.

Nellie the Elephant would put me off Nellie.

I'd go for Betsy or Ethel.

Hobby2014 · 24/04/2015 14:38

Coming on to say Edith but has been mentioned already.

stormyboots · 24/04/2015 14:47

How about Violet, i think it sounds lovely with the other 3 names

I agree with other poster Ivy is too similar to Iris
Betsy and Nellie are more nns imo , but you could use Penelope for Nellie.
Ethel is my least favourite on your list

ICanTotallyDance · 26/04/2015 11:27

From your list Betsy is my favourite (perhaps short for Bethany or Elizabeth?) and then Ivy. Although Iris and Ivy are quite similar?

Not as keen on Nellie or Ethel but not against them per se.

I would also suggest:

Edith nn Edie
Gillian/Jillian nn Gill/Jill/Jilly
Esther nn Essie
Sylvia nn Sylvie
Ruth nn Ruthie
Beatrice nn Betty
Dorothy nn Dot

Or maybe Joanna, Josephine or Lucy. Or Victoria or Winnifred.
