Can't have Rose or Rosie, can I use Rosa?

My daughters best friend is called Rosie, which is the name I would have used to match my siblings names that end in the 'ee' sound.
My sister is expecting and if she has a girl she wants to use Rose as a mn. (Madeleine Rose, this is such a beautiful name and she has said she may use the nn Maddy or to make it prettier Maddy-Rose; although I don't think that will last long!).

I like Rose as a first name, as I feel it's used so much as a filler mn, but if my sister uses it, I cannot have it.

But it has been suggested on a post I made, about the name Rosa. I think this is beautiful and not common in the UK. I haven't heard of any Rosa's and I think it is a classic name that would sit my two other children's names.

Can I use it if my daughter's best friend is Rosie, and if my sister has a girl and uses Rose as a mn?

Beautiful name, and it sounds like you love it. Use it! DD's friend is far removed enough, and your niece is unlikely to be called by her mn (even more unlikely if you do call DD2 Rosa). Go for it :)

How about Rosalie?

Rosalie is beautiful and me and Oh like it. It has the same 'ee' ending as my siblings names. I slightly prefer Rosa, however the more I say Rosalie, the more I love it.
Only hang up (which is why I slightly prefer Rosa), is the Twilight connection! I don't want people saying, 'oh after Twilight'. Do you think it matters now?
I can still get to the name Rosa as a nn, if I wanted, and maybe it's not too similar to what my sister's would use if she has a girl and uses the mn Rose.
Thank you for the suggestion SilkStalkings (Can't believe I didn't think it!)

What about Rosarie? You'd still have the 'ee' but no twilight connection!

Rosalind
Rosaline
Rosemary
Rosemary
Rosanna
Rosanne

Madeleine Rose is gorgeous. Your sister has great taste Wink

I love Rosa though. And I think Rose is a common enough middle name that you'd totally get away with it. I couldn't talk DH round on Rosa unfortunately Sad

I do also really like Rosalie and, not being into Twilight one jot, I'd never have made that connection.

ChippyMinton · 19/04/2015 21:08

Rosemarie

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/04/2015 21:08

I have a Rosa, go for it! We get so many compliments about her name and have never met another one Smile
I also wouldn't bat an eyelid if a friend named a daughter Rosie, it feels like a completely different name to me Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/04/2015 21:10

Oh, also nobody has ever asked us if it is short for anything, it is definitely a name in its own right, don't feel like like you have to give her a longer 'proper' version of it Smile

Love, love, love Rosa/Rosalie.. It's on my girl list :)

d1157230986361b000875 · 19/04/2015 21:21

Thank you for all the other suggestions for the name. I still personally think the people I know will assume it's from Twilight if I use Rosalie (even though I like it, and think that twilight will be long forgotten in a few years). I love that Rosa is not very common and yet pretty *WhispersOfWikedness
I agree it's a stand alone name in it's own right - I would only call her Rosa anyway!

I shall keep Rosalie in case my sister gets annoyed.*avocadotoast I agree Madeleine Rose is beautiful :)

Think it's fine for you to use it! Probably no one will ever use your niece's middle name. I like Rosa but prefer Rosanna and you could always use Rosa as a nn.
