Isabella, Ruby or Abigail?

A week to go until due date/induction with DD2 and we were pretty much set on either Isabella or Ruby and deciding which one when we see her. Isabella is probably my favourite of the two though by a slight edge. Have just seen someone else post about Abigail and am now really pondering that one too! It was on our list way back when but must've been discarded at some point. But now, seeing it again, I'm starting to see it as a possibility too I think.
I'd love your opinions on which name is the nicest, without necessarily bringing popularity into it, as there isn't too much difference between them where we are, plus it doesn't put us off anyway. DD1 is Louisa so we'd also like it to go well with that.
Many thanks!

Ruby is my favourite, but Louisa and Abigail sound great together. Good luck!

Walkingonsunshine00 · 16/04/2015 23:25

1 Abigail
2 Ruby
3 Isabelle

funnyface31 · 16/04/2015 23:27

Isabella is just beautiful, Ruby extremely popular and Abigail is a bit drab.

FatSwan · 16/04/2015 23:29

I love Abigail-because I have one.

Abigail Ruby was a contender too!

IHeartKingThistle · 16/04/2015 23:30

Abigail because the other two are everywhere.

Sophronia · 16/04/2015 23:33

Abigail as the other two are so popular. Isabella is nice though, not a big fan of Ruby.

DianeLockhart · 16/04/2015 23:47

Abigail
Ruby
Isabella

In that order of preference but all nice

swimmerforlife · 17/04/2015 05:28

Abigail defiantly! Such a beautiful classic name yet not overly popular, it also has nicknames options.

Ruby and Isabella are perfectly nice and decent names but they are everywhere at the moment.

bringonyourwreckingball · 17/04/2015 06:16

I have an Abigail! Quite like Isabella but I think Ruby will date quite badly.

DeloresDeSyn · 17/04/2015 06:25

Isabella is the most timeless and pretty, Abigail reminds me of the 80s.

lottieandmias · 17/04/2015 06:28

Well I have an Abigail and an Isabella so I'm biased. Our Abigail is always Abi.

Guin1 · 17/04/2015 06:30

If there really was no difference in popularity, say if all 3 names were not even in the top 100, then Isabella would be my favourite. However, given the huge number of Isabella (and variants of it) there are around, I would chose Abigail.

lottieandmias · 17/04/2015 06:30

As an aside, I don't think popularity matters as much as having a name that suits the child.

parsnipbob · 17/04/2015 06:31

You can't move round here for kids called Isabella. I like ruby but I think Abigail and Louisa go together better.

Mrsindecision · 17/04/2015 08:36

Louisa is such an underused classic - timeless, simple and elegant. None of the names on your list quite match it - Isabella would be my preference of the names you are considering, I really do like it but it is EXTREMELY popular. Popularity may not be an issue for you but I'm just making a comparison with Louisa which is simply lovely.
Names I think go well which are outside the top 50 are Clara, Helena and Annabel. Charlotte and Sophia are in a similar vein to Isabella - lovely but very popular. How about Gabriella instead of Isabella?
I really don't like Ruby (no match for Louisa at all IMO) and Abigail is nowhere near as appealing to my ear as Isabella is but it is OK.
Good luck with you decision making - it'll be tough finding a match for Louisa!

sweetpeame · 17/04/2015 08:42

In order of preference:
Isabella
Abigail nn Abi
Ruby

Yes Isabella is very popular right now but it's beautiful and also classic I believe. Even though there will be a lot of girls of a certain age with this name, I honestly think it's quite different to names like Ruby which are likely to be more faddy. Abigail is nice, not really my taste.

AliceAnneB · 17/04/2015 08:53

All are beautiful but I prefer Ruby and then Abigail.

TheTravellingLemon · 17/04/2015 09:03

I started that thread OP. Glad I inspired you! I obviously like Abigail best, of the other two I prefer Isabella, but it is everywhere here too. Ruby doesn't do it for me for some reason. Maybe I grew up too near the East End Grin

BubGal13 · 17/04/2015 09:19

Isabella- adore this, beautiful, elegant but fun, energetic, feminine without being twee and lovely NN possibilities Bella or Izzy/Iz.

Abigail- no from me, just a bit too twee/not special enough.

Ruby, like.

burgatroyd · 17/04/2015 09:29

Abigail.

justjodie92 · 17/04/2015 09:30

Ruby.
Followed by Isabella nn Bella

Dukketeater · 17/04/2015 10:12

Ruby

HelenF350 · 17/04/2015 10:17

Isabella is one of my favourite girls names. I can't use it though as DP hates it ??

squoosh · 17/04/2015 10:40

Abigail.

Isabella is nice if a bit everywhere at the moment.

Ruby is bottom of the list as I think it's going to date pretty quickly.
