I love the name Walter but I'm not sure I'm brave enough!

Here are all the boys names I'm considering....
Albert
Frank
Alfred
Walter
Archie
Sebastian
Franklin
Jake

Id be interested to hear similar names!

Thanks

We named our dog Walt, and I regret not saving it for our first born son. I love it so much!

Would I BU to name our first son Walt anyway, with it being the dogs name too?

Heels99 · 16/04/2015 18:40

I do know one, but that was before breaking bad.

MyNameIsSuz · 16/04/2015 18:42

I have a Franklin, it's a good name! I can add too your list...
Calvin
Vincent
Hugo

I think Walter is due a comeback though!

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 16/04/2015 18:43

I like it. It's a family name so we would use it for that reason.

MrsTatum1980 · 16/04/2015 18:48

Trying desperately not to out myself here but I have a Walter! Born last year and I was unsure at first as DP's choice but I absolutely love it! We haven't met another one which is a plus for me and he is the most placid, happy baby going...I do worry about when he's hitting the clubs at 18 and introduces himself but hopefully he'll be cool enough to carry it off!

PuppyMonkey · 16/04/2015 18:56

Prefer Heisenberg Grin

IvoryMadonna · 16/04/2015 19:05

I like Walter. Always sounds to me as if it should have a 'Sir' in front of it! Sir Walter Raleigh, Sir Walter Scott ...

FunkyPeacock · 16/04/2015 19:09

There are already a few young Walters around so it is experiencing something of a comeback already, although not admittedly on the scale of Arthur etc

If you love it go for it!

My favourite on your list is Albert x

Alisvolatpropiis · 16/04/2015 19:10

I know someone who had a Walter last month!

If you love it, do it.

I think names like Walter and Clarke are up and coming for boys.

Ilovenannyplum · 16/04/2015 19:13

I have an Archie, and considering his 'Popular' it is, I've not met another one.
I love Walter, I think it's fab Smile

Ilovenannyplum · 16/04/2015 19:13

How not his Confused

stormyboots · 16/04/2015 19:48

I know a Walter who is in his fifties and he has always been known as Wally, nn doesn't sound good when written down but in reality you totally forget the other meaning of this word when talking to him.

I like Walter and esp. the disney association

Mostlyjustaluker · 16/04/2015 19:51

I love all your names

Sophronia · 16/04/2015 20:17

I like Walter, I also like Albert and Frank/Franklin from your list.

mammmamia · 16/04/2015 21:11

My DS has one in his class (Reception)
I like Archie best on your list

burgatroyd · 16/04/2015 21:24

Its fab! Love it!

AuntieStella · 16/04/2015 21:28

Walter is The Softy from the Beano (and Denis the Menace is still on) or a deluded con artist (Walter Mitty).

From your list, I'd pick Alfred.

Other names which have the same vibe to me: Reginald, Norman, Clive, Denis, Kenneth, Bruce, Nigel.

IvoryMadonna · 16/04/2015 21:47

There are more cool Walters than dodgy ones. All names have good and bad namesakes.

carameldecaflatte · 16/04/2015 21:56

My great grandfather was a Walter and he was known as Wat (rhymes with cat). Totally irrelevant but I love the name!

Blahia · 16/04/2015 21:58

I love Walter!! love love love it! And Alfred too! You obviously have great taste in names. Hahaha!

I also like:

Leopold

Alfred

Casper

Otto

Conrad

Wilbur

Jasper

Hugo

Reuben

Variousrandomthings · 18/04/2015 06:38

Wilf

nutelladipper · 18/04/2015 08:13

Aw thanks all, I'm glad it's kind of had a little comeback but not a huge one!

I'll keep in on there. My preference is

  1. Walter
  2. Albert
  3. Humphrey - a new contender since I wrote post!!

Thanks for all other suggestions I'll add them to the "to be discussed list"!

No sorry, I really don't think it's due a revival.

Sebastian is lovely, though.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 18/04/2015 08:29

A few years ago I would have thought of Walter as a very wet name (Beano character?) but then Breaking Bad happened and now I love it (not that Walter White is a great role model exactly!). Walt is a fab nn.

Of your other choices I really like Jake (or Jonathan nn Jake)

Wilfred /Wilf is another idea

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/04/2015 09:40

Humphrey is not due a revival, I don't think it ever had much of a heyday.
