Wow, Martha has jumped up the rankings - Elizabeth has had a fall from grace and Frieda is gaining favour Shock

Please give these girls name a score /10

I feel with names, there should maybe be an adjustment for skewdness. Dunno what though.

Are William Hill taking bets on the final outcome? I want to put a tenner on Claudia.

Agree, best baby name thread ever. Graphs! Competition! It's like an election.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 22:41

We need Peter Snow and his swingometer.

TremoloGreen · 16/04/2015 22:45

Funnily enough, I said to Dh earlier that Elizabeth was in the lead, and he said "Did we rank that top? Then exclude it. Otherwise Elizabeth is the Ed Milliband of the girls names!"

I looked it up and Ed Miliband is UK MP, but I don't understand his comment.

TremoloGreen · 16/04/2015 23:52

When the UK Labour party had a leadership election, the favourite to win among MPs in the party was David Milliband. However, Ed overtook him due to votes from other parties such as the trade unions and general public.

OP posts:
squoosh · 16/04/2015 23:56

So who's currently David and who's currently Ed?

(Frieda is Eric Pickles)

TheCraicDealer · 17/04/2015 00:05

Tabitha is George Galloway making cat noises whilst crawling around on all fours.

nooka · 17/04/2015 06:26

My dd's middle name is Frieda after my grandmother, who had a German father hence the spelling. So obviously I like it a lot, and luckily so does dd :) although my grandmother apparently did not. I don't like the spelling without the 'i' - and would wonder if it would end up as Fred-a which is not so pretty. However with an older sister Helena I'd not choose it as to me they sound a bit too alike. In fact I'd discount the rest of the 'a' ending names on that ground.

I like Rosalind and Meredith best with Helena. However I see that your parental weighed spreadsheet rates the names I like the least!

My scores on the names alone:
Frieda 7
Claudia 4
Tabitha 1
Rosalind 7
Meredith 7
Elizabeth 7
Thea 4 (too short, much prefer Dorothea, Theodora or Alethea)
Phoebe 1
Martha 2

MadameJosephine · 17/04/2015 06:32

Frieda 7/10
Claudia 7/10
Tabitha 4/10

MadameJosephine · 17/04/2015 06:33

Oops forgot Helena 8/10

SunshineAndShadows · 17/04/2015 06:39

Sorry but I think Frieda is awful (sorry nooka) it's the name of Bert's wife (the Archers) and the spelling makes it look like Fried-a (as in fried eggs)

My scores on the names are:
Frieda -5 can't go low enough
Claudia 7
Tabitha 8 (like this - would use tabby or kitty as a nn)
Rosalind 7 (pretty nn options)
Meredith 7
Elizabeth 5
Thea 8 (but only if prn with a hard T, 6 if a Th sound)
Phoebe 4 (it's everywhere)
Martha 7

SunshineAndShadows · 17/04/2015 06:40

I like Tabitha but it was the name of my first cat, I get quite annoyed when people say my DDs name is a good name for a dog - I love dogs but feels a bit offensive put her name into this hub.co-operativeinsurance.co.uk/babynames/ and said it was a popular dogs name too :(
Although for a scientificy approach may be good for you and DH to test the names in it even just for curiosity :) x x
