Alys or Alice

Thoughts please?

I like Alys, but she'll spend her whole life having to spell it to people.

I think Alys is the Welsh version. I love it and considered it. But we're Welsh. I think English people might struggle with the pronunciation - Al-ees?

Never use forrin names unless you're forrin. It's stupid at best and pretentious at worst (or vice versa).

Why do people say "only if you are Welsh"? The Welsh form of Alice is Alis.

You can find the spelling Alys in many old English parish registers.

I prefer Alice but either is fine!

Alys looks so much prettier but would be a pain in the bahookie to constantly spell.

Agree with Ivory - the Alys spelling is not 'forrin'.

Having said that, I think I prefer Alice on the whole.

Alys seems pretentious and will be a pain for your DD to have to keep spelling for people.

I love Alys, it's on our list.
