Is there an official top 100 name list?

It's still early days for me but my DH and I have been trying to come up with some names. I only like traditional (could be classes as boronf) names. I'm also a teacher so certain names are a massive no go. I originally wanted to avoid the top 100 list and go for something which is classic but every list I've looked at is different. Sometimes our favourite names are there, sometimes they aren't. Is there an official list?

So far we really like Anna, Alice, Penny, Jessica and Lewis, Joel & possibly Rory.

Yes there is. You will find it on the Office for National Statistics website. Sorry don't know how to link on the iPad. They will have the official lists for children born in 2013. The list for babies born in 2014 is published some time in August.

Search baby names in the search bar on the publications tab, the report will come up. Be warned it is very in depth - goes far beyond the top 100 if you want it too. I think most of the names you like are top 100. Not sure if Penny is though.

Here's the Office for National Statistics data for England and Wales 2013. The 2014 lists not published until later this year.

The list comes out in September each year for the previous year. So this September they'll publish the names from 2014.
