Teddie-Rose?!

Baby no2 due in 11 weeks, we had our hearts set on Teddy for a boy and since finding out its a girl we are really struggling for a girls name. What are people's views on Teddie for a girls name? Does it sound better alone or with Rose? I'm not 100% but my partner really really wants it.

might be best to save Teddy if you ever do have a boy.

Teddie-Rose may be sweet on a baby/toddler but i don't feel it's a name that grows with the child. Saying that though, there are a lot of children with hyphenated names these days, so it probably won't be unusual to meet 'adults' with names like these in the future.

If you love Teddie i would personally look for a name that it can be a nickname for and put that on the birth certificate but always call her by your preferred name

twainiac · 10/04/2015 17:44

Against the grain here, I love Teddie for a girl. However, I would use it as more of a nickname, and give a more formal name that she could use if she wanted.

deadwitchproject · 10/04/2015 17:47

Thea is nice, I think it will work with Rose.

sweetpeame · 10/04/2015 18:08

I love Ted for a boy (on my list for DS1) but really dislike Teddie for a girl. Not crazy about Theodora either but miles better than Teddie and you could use it as a nn if you really wanted. Thea is a bit better although again not my cup of tea.

Blueberrybaby · 10/04/2015 22:28

I agree, it sounds like cheap satin underwear. I'd save it for a boy. Or if you must go for Theodora or Thea, but drop the Rose.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/04/2015 22:31

Ted/Teddy = great for a boy. Considered it as a nn for Ds2. But didn't happen.

Teddie for a girl = shockingly bad, sorry.

Theodora/Thea, or you could have Alethea and call her Thea for short, or in fact just Thea is a nice name by itself.

As has been mentioned though, Robbie Williams used Theodora so it will probably be up in popularity (if that's something that bothers you).

tryingtocatchthewind · 10/04/2015 22:38

Sorry going to be harsh here but sounds like a cheap striper!

Love teddy for a boy though - save it for baby two??

Westendgal · 10/04/2015 22:45

Em, makes me think of Theodore Roosevelt, nicknamed Teddy. Gave his name to the bear.....

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 10/04/2015 22:57

I actually think Teddie (or just Teddy) is a cute nn for a girl, but would keep it as a nn, not a given name.

Rose is lovely as a mn (I don't care that it is over used) but hyphenating it is a bit clichéd. Without the hyphen is better and she can choose whether to use it or not.

Theodora Rose
Thea Rose
Dorothia Rose

Sophronia · 10/04/2015 22:59

Sorry, it's awful. Theodora Rose would be nice though.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 10/04/2015 23:03

Theodora or Thea Rose is lovely. Teddy is cute as a nickname but Teddie slides beyond cute into horribly twee. I really wouldn't.

Vijac · 11/04/2015 00:07

Use teddie as a pet name and actually name any other name you like. Or Theodora/Thea and shorten both are gorgeous.

LovethenameDaphne · 11/04/2015 09:26

Thea Rose is beautiful, nick-named Teddy. Teddie-Rose would be awful to live with. She would never be taken seriously.

Halsall · 11/04/2015 09:37

Wasn't one of the Beverley Sisters called Teddy? Not a good precedent, sorry! I do really like Thea, though.

TheNewStatesman · 11/04/2015 12:50

It is dire, sorry!

SunnyBaudelaire · 11/04/2015 12:54

it is dreadful - what about when she is an adult?
How about Theodora?

IvoryMadonna · 11/04/2015 13:38

Wasn't there a Teddy in one of those 1980s Judith Krantz sex-and-shopping books?

Plus this:

"A teddy, also called a camiknicker, is a garment which covers the torso and crotch in the one garment. It is a similar style of garment to a one-piece swimsuit or bodysuit, but is typically looser and more sheer. The garment is put on by stepping into the leg holes and pulling the garment up to cover the torso. It may cover the whole of the torso or partially and may also cover the arms. They may open at the crotch for visits to the toilet, without the need to remove all clothing. As an undergarment, it combines the functions of a camisole and panties, and may be preferred to avoid a visible panty line." (Wikipedia)

The one teenage girl I know with the nickname teddie to her family is actually called a completely different (normal) name. Like pp said, give her a proper name and then you can always call her teddie at home if it seems to suit her...

ShadowStone · 11/04/2015 14:37

I hate Teddie as a proper name.

Cute for a baby, yes, but awful for an adult.

Anothfr vote for using Teddie as a nickname for another name (Theodora, Edwina)

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 11/04/2015 17:30

Tessie is lovely.

dragdownthemoon · 11/04/2015 18:10

I love Teddie for a girl!! Why shouldn't a grown woman be called Teddie? It could be Theadora so if she feels like people are judging her on her name she can be Thea or Dora or Dr Theadora or "all rise for judge Theadora"...

I wouldn't double barrel it. But Teddie for a girl is awesome. I wish my name were Teddie. For real.

emmeline7725 · 11/04/2015 21:08

I have a Thea and I really can't see how Teddy (or Teddie) can be derived from it as a nickname. Theodora shortens to Teddy. Then she'll have options as she gets older (Thea, Dora )

Chottie · 11/04/2015 21:21

Sorry, it's a no from me too. :(

ginzillas · 12/04/2015 08:18

I love the nickname Teddy for a girl but agree she needs a more grown up 'formal' name. Thea Rose is beautiful and you can easily call her Teddy from that.

We nearly gave Dd a nicknamey name but then decided to give her a longer more grownup name on her birth certificate. We still call her the nickname but I'm so glad we made the decision we did. Because, at three, DD prefers to be known as her full name and always introduces herself as that. Giving options can only be a good thing.

Tranquilitybaby · 12/04/2015 09:23

Theodora Rose is Robbie Willuams daughters name. They shorten it to Teddy.

I only like Teddy for a boy tbh.
