After consulting what seems like every source known to humankind we've decided on this for our boy's first name when he comes. Love love love it even if you pull it to pieces!!! Wink

I like azrael.

What does it mean?

GormlessNormTheGardenGnome · 09/04/2015 00:25

Makes me think of the Smurfs. Isn't it the name of Gargamel's cat?

But apart from that, it's quite nice.

I'm going to Google now, because I'm probably wrong...

GormlessNormTheGardenGnome · 09/04/2015 00:26

Yep, I am wrong. The cat is Azrael!

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 09/04/2015 00:35

Are you asking for opinions?

britishbakeoffblues · 09/04/2015 01:05

I bet people will think it's Adrian.

BiscuitsForBreakfast · 09/04/2015 01:06

washing powder

squoosh · 09/04/2015 01:23

I'd never heard of it either, had to google. Initially I thought it was one of those composite names, the child of Adrian and Muriel.

IvoryMadonna · 09/04/2015 11:37

Sounds more than a bit Tolkienesque. Gal-adriel

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 09/04/2015 11:41

sounds like a washing powder....?

TaurielTest · 09/04/2015 11:43

is it "AY-driel" (like Adrian/Gabriel) or "AD-ri-el" (like Galadriel)?

TaurielTest · 09/04/2015 11:49

DSs have a few friends with relatively obscure OT names like this one (e.g. Boaz), I think it's a nice way to find something unusual and traditional at the same time. I wouldn't choose it personally because IMO it sounds too close to either Adrian or Azrael (= "angel of death") depending on the pronunciation, but if you love it, go for it!

Sophronia · 09/04/2015 14:15

I thought it was going to be for a girl before I clicked on the thread, like Adrienne, Arielle etc.

Quasilulu · 09/04/2015 15:39

It's pronounced Aye driel. Biblical in origin.Still love it Grin
