A brother for John-Paul called Benedict? Too 'popey'?!

My sister said "what would be next, Francis?".

Point taken so, I like Benjamin, Stephen and...Innocent (but again I know, too popey!).

Any other suggestions? John-Paul, Charlotte and...?

I like Benedict. I thought Cumberbatch before the Pope...

Benjamin goes too, but you could pick anything and it could be the name of the next Pope (well, unless you go for a female name, I suppose...)

Go for Benedict if you like it. Just maybe rethink Francis, if it comes to that Wink

MyArksNotReady · 07/04/2015 15:57

I like and they are memorable. Grin

SpringtimeForShatner · 07/04/2015 16:04

I think Benedict and John-Paul are too popey. Benedict on its own wouldn't make me think it, it's John-Paul that's the obvious one, but together it looks like a theme.

I like Matthew and Stephen. Or Pius Grin.

Oakmaiden · 07/04/2015 16:07

Well, they are very popey. John-Paul in particular.

But if that doesn't bother you, then don't let what anyone else thinks about it bother you either.

Benedict is a lovely name (and I am in no way biased by the awesome Cumberbatch. OK, maybe that bit is a lie.)

mrsmeerkat · 07/04/2015 16:09

Bernard instead of Benadict, bit Popey

Could be shortened to Ben

mrsmeerkat · 07/04/2015 16:10

Benedict

JustAQuicky · 07/04/2015 16:12

Go for it

When I saw John-Paul I though if Hollyoaks Grin

MajesticWhine · 07/04/2015 16:17

Yes, far too popey. Benjamin works well with your other names. How about Joshua.

Fridayschild · 07/04/2015 16:21

Too many popes!

My DSs both have Scottish names because my family is Scottish. We live in London. If anyone learns both boys' names at the same time I am asked if we are Scottish. The novelty has worn off over the years....

so if you think now this might be a problem, remember you will live with it for the rest of your lives. As will they!

NKfell · 07/04/2015 16:35

JustAQuicky - A few people thought I must be a Hollyoaks fan!

I do like Catholic/Christian names but, naming my children after popes is pushing it- I'm not THAT religious!

I think you've all confirmed that having a John-Paul and a Benedict might be too much!

Benjamin is still up there. I do like Stephen though. OH likes Aaron but I'm not sure (a kid I went to school with has put me off it).

I wouldn't use Benedict with Jean Paul. Benjamin works though.

Not keen on Aaron.

munchkinmaster · 07/04/2015 16:39

Pope Central!

Discombobulated42 · 07/04/2015 17:49

I've always loved the name Benedict. My DS is Christian, then I had 3 girls. Another boy would have been Benedict. I love your choice of names, blow what anyone else thinks. Good luck. Thanks Thanks

BettyRooster · 07/04/2015 17:50

How about George-Ringo? Wink

NKfell · 07/04/2015 18:22

Betty! My DS did a project on The Beatles and he said it would be funny to call the new baby Ringo-George! You're obviously on the same wavelength! haha

Thanks everyone!

Two significant males in my life are called Francis and benedict both were named before the popes. I think the names are lovely. If you like them that is all that matters

IvoryMadonna · 07/04/2015 19:19

Stephen is a great choice. An ancient name, and a saint, but it's only really had one spike of popularity, in the mid 20th century.

ch1134 · 07/04/2015 20:20

Much too popey!

Harbourgirl · 07/04/2015 20:24

But how often will they be called by their full names? If they're generally going to be called Jon/Jonny/J-P and Ben, few will know.

TheBoov · 07/04/2015 20:33

My DH's response "Are you a member of Opus Dei?"
Benedict's a lovely name, but combined with John-Paul and his future little brother Francis you might give off that impression Smile.

OneHappyBunny · 08/04/2015 00:15

Way too popey!

And Innocent is a total curse of a name Grin

Loads of Pope Stephens too. The best one put a corpse on trial, IIRC, found it guilty and cut off its fingers Confused

What about Dominic or Joseph?

suspicious50 · 08/04/2015 00:21

I like pope names but gregory and louis or francis would be less obvioys than john-paul and benedict. People will think u r a rosary blead clacking 24/7
Dominic would work.

munchkinmaster · 08/04/2015 04:19

Innocent sounds fab now. Prob sound good at 30. Aged 14? Start saving for the therapy.

NKfell · 08/04/2015 16:40

My DS doesn't get much grief for being John-Paul and most people don't shorten it (except in text he becomes JP out of thumb laziness)...

I like Stephen and I haven't given Dominic much thought but, I might do now.

Although I like Innocent, I would never actually do that to a child haha.

I love Joseph but OH nephew is Joseph. OHs contribution last night was Aiden...so his front runners are Aaron and Aiden. Maybe he needs to turn the page in the baby name book!

If you were French the popey would not come to mind. If not quite Popey.
