I love the name may (or Mae) its got a family connection to, I was thinking of using it as a middle name but I really like it as a first name, but baby's due in August would that be weird??? My first is called rose so I think it goes quite well

You know, it's clearly an obvious link but it never occurred to me before. I know a May and I never wondered before why she was named that when her birthday is in January!

IvoryMadonna · 05/04/2015 13:38

It's fine. As she goes through life most people won't know when her birthday is anyway.

It would be refreshing as a first name as it's quite unusual. As a middle name it is overused to the point of being a cliché. I would avoid the Mae spelling though, it seems affected to me.

I know a June born in April, I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a Mae born in December and it's only been commented on once - by some one who just has To comment.

Really not a problem.

StrawberryCheese · 05/04/2015 13:46

Not weird at all. It is a name in its own right, doesn't have to be connected to the actual month Smile

My favourite girl's name at the moment is April and our baby is due in september. If baby turns out to be a girl and DH agrees then I have no qualms using it.

I know a 92 year old called May and her birthday is at the end of August . She's never had a problem with it and it is such a pretty nameSmile

sweetpeame · 05/04/2015 19:36

I don't think it matters at all. I wouldn't expect someone with a "month" name to necessarily be born in that month. On the subject of spelling, it was also my grandmother's name but was spelt Mai. It's an old spelling, not common but also not uncommon in the west of Ireland when she was born in 1915 Grin

princessvikki · 05/04/2015 19:38

Thanks, I think that's what she'll be, anybody got an option on which spelling in leaning more toward Mae so it's not the same as the month
also need a middle name. I would like something old fashioned as my eldest is Rose Margaret, any ideas???

I wouldnt worry about it, May is a lovely name :)

Nectar · 07/04/2015 17:27

I wouldn't see it as a problem, but another option is Maya if you like that. Not so obviously a 'month name' then!
