Harbour Grace

Hello,
We are expecting a girl and I love the idea of Harbour (I think of a safe place and the ocean which are positive connotations in my mind). I know that it is not a very gendered name, but I love how it sounds paired with Grace, which I think is very feminine. We are Canadian, hence the spell of Harbour. I think it is one of those names that might be beautiful once it is attached to person. I would love some feedback:)

Is your surname 'Darling'?

18katie · 04/04/2015 17:44

No:)

The association won't be risible then, but I think it's still unfortunate.

Flossiechops · 04/04/2015 17:47

Are you living in Canada and is it well known there? If the answer is no then i wouldn't use it. Its ok as a word but not as a name for a child. Think of her as an adult - trying too hard to be different in my opinion.

CaptainHolt · 04/04/2015 17:48

It sounds like an instruction

bridgetsmummy · 04/04/2015 17:51

Harbour is not a name!!

GlitzAndGigglesx · 04/04/2015 17:57

Harbour isn't a name it's a word and it sounds like the name of a boat. There are many other lovely names with links to the ocean

PrimalLass · 04/04/2015 17:58

Not. A. Name.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/04/2015 18:03

I just keep seeing a mis spelling of harper.

grace is lovely. but harbour is just not a name.

sure there are lots of other water based/aquatic names have a Google Smile

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 04/04/2015 18:06

Well you can harbour criminals, harbour a grudge or harbour disease.
Haven might be nice.
But I like Grace.

Sorry but Harbour is a dreadful idea for a name.

Strokethefurrywall · 04/04/2015 18:11

I actually quite like it and like the "safe" meanings behind it. That said, I still think it's a little close to Harper and may get mistaken quite a bit.
Haven is also lovely and has become a name in its own right so if you like Harbor is go for it!
Nobody will say they don't like it when you introduce your baby and soon it will just be associated with her.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2015 18:11

It's absolutely dreadful. Sorry, but it is.

Grace has the obvious link with Grace Darling, thus a sea connection in itself, if that matters to you.

PrimalLass · 04/04/2015 18:12

MrsCakes that just reminds me of shaven haven Smile

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 04/04/2015 18:12

Blush ooer.

ZenNudist · 04/04/2015 18:13

No, awful.

Kampeki · 04/04/2015 18:13

I don't like it. Sorry, OP, but I have to be honest.

toobreathless · 04/04/2015 18:14

Harper?
Haven?
Hero?

I just don't like it sorry. I don't think it's pretty and I would worry about lots of jokes about mooring boats in her harbour etc when she's older...

Selks · 04/04/2015 18:16

I prefer Dockyard myself, or Wharf.

Kampeki · 04/04/2015 18:17

Grin selks

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 04/04/2015 18:17

All sorts of dodgy ways she can be teased about the name Harbour as a teen (have you been in the harbour, smells of fish...) don't do that to the poor girl!

Marina is a recognised name...

Oceania is too.

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 04/04/2015 18:19

But Marina makes me think of Last of the Summer Wine - the bosomy blonde trollop.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 04/04/2015 18:40

:o

Marinas classmates won't have seen Last of The Summer Wine... Wink

I didn't say it was a great name - just better than Harbour Wink :o (which isn't a name)

Oceania then? That's quite poetic? I've only ever met one Oceania - she was about 90... due it's turn again maybe?

Marmiteandjamislush · 04/04/2015 18:50

As you're asking for opinion, I don't like it and would feel quite sorry for a child if I heard it to be honest. But if you and your DH both like it, it's your choice.
