We are having a middle name dilemma.
There is no family regularly-used name to pass on, I think just the first and last name will be too short so I want a middle name to break it up.
I really like one of my grandmothers first names.
1 - because it is unusual and I think goes well with the first name we have chosen.
2 - I think it will be a nice gesture to someone who has always been supportive of me.

I have spoken to my DM about this as I know it will upset the other grandmother (who is not supportive, doesn't have a nice name and is very very sarcastic/catty and doesn't like anyone on the other side of the family). DM suggested telling a little white lie and say we put all of the grandmothers (x3) names into a hat and this is the one we pulled out.

DP and I like the name the more we think about it.

BTW - DM isn't the daughter of the name we chose, in case you think she is biased.

Could you just say you've used both granmothers' names as middle names? They're not going to inspect the birth certificate, are they?

I used my partners mums name as the middle name and didn't tell my mum!

My daughter has the middle name Grace , after one of my Grandmothers
My other Grandma was Blodwen and she was so pleased I didn't name my daughter after her ?? it's your choice , not anyone else

If this is definitely your last one then say you are using other grandma next time ;)

Or actually you could say that next one is DPs grandma's turn then it will be hers.....if you have a 3rd girl :)

This is definitely the only one!
Might just go with the random pulling from a hat suggestion from DM. It's a difficult one.

Why not name her after you maternal grandmother if you especially like the name and give your paternal grandmothers name as her middle name.
Or is it an absolute must that she has to have a middle name.

We have a definite girls name. It's just the middle name we are after. Definitely do not want maternal grandmother name in there as it's horrible. It's my dad's mums name we want that goes well

I'd just use the name you like. There's no need to mention family lineage unless asked. The other grandma might not notice. If she does, just smile and say you loved the name. That's what matters.
