Just wondered. DH likes Nancy, but I'm not sure that it cuts it for an adult.

I don't see why not. I desperately wanted Nancy for my daughter but H wasn't so keen :-(

It's a diminutive of Anne so I don't see why is can't be for Annabel. However, I know an adult Nancy, she's very elegant and graceful so I see it's very nice for an adult too.

This. You can see how naturally it occurs; Anne becomes Nan (Anne Boleyn style) then Nancy.

Definitely!

Yes deffo!! and I think Nancy is a lovely nickname for all ages.

squoosh · 01/04/2015 23:28

Yes it can definitely be short for Annabel.

It's funny though because of the two names Nancy sounds more grown up to me, maybe because I associate Annabel with the doll whereas I associate Nancy with the formidable Nancy Blackett from Swallows & Amazons.

Yes. Like both. Formal name. Cute trendy name.

I don't think it makes much sense. Just use one or the other.

PotteringAlong · 02/04/2015 15:25

Just call her Nancy.

Nancy is lovely

DevonFolk · 02/04/2015 19:11

Why does it have to be a nickname? I Don't understand all this choosing a 'proper' name just because people like the potential nn. Nancy can be a name in it's own right. Just call her Nancy!

Kittykatmacbill · 02/04/2015 21:57

Nancy is a perfectly fine name for an adult! Annabel is surely less grown up?

Bifald · 02/04/2015 23:45

Is Isabel not grown up? Annabel is like a plainer version of Isabel, which also works for all ages.
