Rex and Beatrix?

Are these names too close?

I am currently pregnant with our second child, we already have a little boy called Rex.

We don't know what we are having but my husband loves the name Beatrix, he is properly obsessed with it. It is growing on me but I worry that it sounds to similar to Rex. Even more so because we would probably call her Trixie.

What do you think?

Love it, unless your surname's Potter of course!

sweetpeame · 01/04/2015 09:00

They do sound similar in that they both end with "x" but they're different sounds IYSWIM. One ends in "ex" and one in "ix". They're not exactly my taste in names but I think they sound fine together, not too matchy. You could also use nn Bea for DD?

Glitter, love, love Rex.
Gorgeous name for a boy and man.

No offence, but to me they are both a bit "x'y" together....while Rex is cool, individual, classic and modern, bit edgy....Beatrix is a touch bland/twee/old fashioned and for me, not in a nice vintagey retro way Rex is.

Few other ideas-
Olive
Elsa
Sia
Luella
Fearne
Lily
Violet
Marisa
Phoebe
Nancy

Totally fine imo. Am so jealous you have a Rex - we named the cat this before DCs and now my son has my second choice name Sad

I adore the name Beatrix, much more than Beatrice. Trixie is a lovely nn too.

Go for it!

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 01/04/2015 11:00

I love Beatrix, really cool name, far far nicer than Beatrice. Bea and Trixie are both great nns.

Beatrix and Rex is fine imo.

Rex and Regina.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 01/04/2015 11:40

Are you fearne cotton!?
Love both and don't think they are too samey.

glittershoes · 01/04/2015 12:56

Thank you for all your thoughts!

Unfortunately I am not Fearne Cotton Brioche but she had her Rex about 6 months after I had mine. I am hoping she has her baby for mine so I can avoid giving it the same name!

Lovely together, imo. Not too 'X'y. X is a great letter anyway, even if they were.

CwtchCorner · 01/04/2015 15:33

Ah yes, Beatrix. It's a lovely name but:

What do you call a woman with a pint of beer on her head? Beatrix
What do you call a woman with a pint of beer on her head playing snooker? Beatrix Potter

Just saying.....

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2015 15:35

I think together Rex & Beatrix they sound quite cleverly themed, and not too matchy at all Smile

AnnaD2 · 01/04/2015 18:21

I have a Rex too. I think Beatrix works okay with it although I probably prefer a 'softer' sounding name for a girl. Our DD is Honor.

EllaBella1 · 01/04/2015 22:36

Love Rex but think softer name would work. How about Bella ?

VainVulva · 02/04/2015 12:06

I think they make a brilliant sibset!

glittertits · 02/04/2015 13:05

Can you use Beatrice? The nickname Bea is adorable.
